"Kim Taehyung, do you take Park Ava to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I DO" he spoke with a blank expression, his eyes betraying no emotion.
"Park Ava, do you take Kim Taehyung to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I d-do" she spoke slowly, and th...
A little later, Ava came in with the food, setting the tray on the table. She placed a bowl on Taehyung's side and added some side dishes.
Taehyung looked at the bowl of noodles and said, "Oh, why do your ramen look different? They look even more delicious."
"Don't try it; it's super spicy. I haven’t forgotten the last incident," she warned, her tone playful but strict.
He chuckled, nodding in agreement. As he took a bite of the ramen, his mouth filled with flavor. "Wow, it’s so delicious!" he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with delight. Ava smiled, happy to see him enjoying her cooking.
As they ate peacefully, Taehyung broke the silence. "You know, my friend does the same thing." Ava looked at him curiously. "He always makes two types of ramen—one for himself and one for me. He’s a spice fanatic," Taehyung replied, slurping up some noodles.
"Which friend? Jimin?" she asked.
Taehyung finished his bite. "No, no, Jungkook. He’s also my security. He just got married, so he’s on vacation."
"Oh, I see! I thought it was Jimin since he runs a restaurant," she said, nodding"
"Yeah, Jimin has a restaurant, but you could say he’s not a great chef. Jungkook, though? He’s amazing in the kitchen. I can’t wait for you to try his food when he gets back," Taehyung said, excitement creeping into his voice.
"Okay," she smiled. "So, you three are close?"
"Yeah, Jimin and I have been friends since high school. We met Jungkook in college. My cousin, who is now Jungkook's wife, is also part of our group," he explained. Ava nodded, listening attentively.
"And Jimin’s more than just a friend; he’s like a brother to me. My dad found him when he had no one, so he means a lot to me," he said, a hint of sadness creeping into his voice at the mention of his father.
Ava recalled how Taehyung’s grandfather had told her about his father’s tragic death in a plane crash.
The rest of dinner passed in comfortable silence.
As the rain subsided, he said, “I think it’s time for me to head out. You look exhausted, and you should get some sleep.” She nodded, pondering whether to invite him in for the night. He was her husband, yet their connection felt more like a friendship now.
As he stood to leave, his phone buzzed. He pulled it out, eyes widening in disbelief.
“What happened? Is something wrong?” she asked, noticing his sudden shift.
"Ugh, I can’t believe I forgot about this!" he exclaimed, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Is it work-related? What’s going on?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
“I had something planned, and now it’s all falling apart because I got distracted by the rain,” he admitted, a hint of worry in his voice.
“Can you just tell me what’s going on? You’re making me anxious,"she insisted, raising her voice slightly.
“Alright, alright, I’ll tell you. But first, let me check the time,” he said
He glanced at his phone. "Oh, it’s still ten minutes left," he murmured, a goofy smile breaking through.
"Do you have a cupcake?" he asked suddenly.
"A cupcake? No!" she replied, confusion written all over her face.
"forget it," he said, scanning the room until his gaze landed on a switchboard. He started to move toward it.
"What are you doing?" she asked, bewildered.
Taehyung took a deep breath, switched off the lights, and pulled out his lighter, its flame dancing in the darkness. He approached Ava, a smile playing on his lips.
“Happy birthday to you,” he began, his voice low and melodic, filling the space with warmth.
As he sang, Ava's eyes sparkled with surprise. When he finished, she raised an eyebrow. "Did you smoke?"
He hesitated, then replied, "Sometimes."
"Still, it’s harmful," she chided gently, her concern evident.
He took a step closer, his tone earnest. "Just a few minutes left," he said, leaning in slightly. "Blow out the lights and make a wish."
She raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Alright, just for a moment." With a grin, he leaned back, watching her close her eyes and blow out the flame, her wish hanging in the air like a secret.
