Taehyung and Jungkook stepped into the house, the door closing behind them. Just as they entered, a loud voice echoed through the hallway, making them both freeze.
"I don’t understand why you’re marrying him! He’s just an employee!" The voice was unmistakable.
Jungkook clenched his jaw, recognizing the voice instantly. It was Mia’s mother, the one person who had always made it clear that she didn’t approve of him. Her hatred for him had never been a secret. She despised the fact that he was an orphan, that he came from a poor background, and that he was attending college on a scholarship. When Mia and Jungkook became friends, she hated it even more, and when Mia told her she wanted to marry him, the animosity had only grown. They’d gotten married in a small court ceremony, with just a few close friends present. Jungkook didn’t have any family to support him—only his friends.
Mia, exhausted by the constant arguments with her mother, sighed heavily. "Oh, please, Mom, don’t start again," she said, her voice barely above a whisper but sharp with exhaustion. "If you came here to ask why I married him, just go. It's been months since we got married, and you still don’t understand. I can’t do this anymore."
"Don’t you dare act like this is my fault, Mia!" her mother shot back. "You could have had a life with Taehyung. He's got a future, he's successful, he’s everything you need! Why waste it all on him?" her voice full of bitterness.
Mia shook her head, tears welling in her eyes as she looked at her mother. "Mom, you don’t understand. I love Jungkook. It’s not about money or status. Why can’t you just accept that?" Her voice cracked with emotion. "I don’t want Taehyung. I want him." She said, her words full of conviction.
"Don’t be foolish, Mia," her mother said, stepping closer to her. "You’re throwing your future away. Taehyung is everything you could ever want. You can marry him, start fresh, and forget about all this nonsense with Jungkook."
Mia’s face twisted in disbelief. "What’s wrong with you, Mom? Why can’t you just accept my choice?" Her voice was shaky now. "You’re asking me to divorce my husband after just a few months of marriage?" She shook her head in disbelief. "How can you say that? How can you even think that?"
"I’m just trying to protect you!" Her mother’s voice grew louder. "You’re wasting your life on a man who has nothing to offer you. He’s just an employee, working under Taehyung. He has no future, no family, no security. What will you do when he can’t provide for you?"
Mia’s anger flared. "Oh, please, Mom!" She nearly shouted. "Don’t compare my husband to your nephew. Your nephew left his wife right after their wedding and hasn’t even bothered to see her since. He doesn’t even care about her!" She was breathing heavily now, her chest rising and falling. "And you want me to be with someone like him? Someone who runs away from their problems? No, Mom, that’s not who my Jungkook is!"
Her mother’s face twisted in frustration. "But you deserve better, Mia! You could have a life with Taehyung. He’s reliable, he’s responsible. He’s a man of means!"
"And Jungkook isn’t?" Mia shot back. "Jungkook works hard every single day. He’s loyal, he’s honest, and he loves me more than anything. That’s what I need, Mom, not money, not status. I need love. And Jungkook gives me that. Can’t you see that?"
Her mother took a step back, crossing her arms over her chest. "I can’t believe you’re saying this. You’re just blinded by emotions. What about your future, your happiness?"
"I’m happy with Jungkook," Mia said softly, the tears finally falling down her cheeks. "This is the life I want. Why can’t you just accept it?"
Her mother stood there, silent for a moment, before her expression hardened. "I’ve tried, Mia. I’ve tried to guide you, but it’s clear you don’t care. Do whatever you want." Her voice was cold now. "Don’t come crying to me when it all falls apart."
