Saad wasn't necessarily an excessively friendly person, but he was by no means rude. He seemed cold and indifferent to those that didn't know him, but to those close with him, he was a pretty approachable and easy going guy. But today, Sana felt like he was her enemy.
The world of law is small, as big as it may seem, and having been some of the best law students of their respective schools, ending up at the same prestigious law firm wasn't surprising. What was surprising, however, was Saads loyalty and dedication to defending Ranya, considering their relationship.
It was surprising for Sana, and she couldn't stop thinking about it since she found out. After Saad abruptly decided to end the dinner a couple of nights ago, Sehr and Sana got to talking a bit more.
Sehr and Sana went way back, having known each other prior to their university days, with university bringing them closer. And with Sana completing law school in that same city, it was easy to stay in touch after coming back from BC.
"I can't believe Saad is so short tempered, it was just a joke." Sana defended, her arrogance having vanished after Saad's reaction promptly ruined the mood and ended the night. After scolding Sana somewhat himself, Imran had also excused himself and left his wife with her.
"Yeah, but that is his wife. I can't tell if they really like each other or if it's just an act, but if it's an act maybe law isn't the right profession for him." Sehr commented, grabbing the empty glasses from the table.
Sana, confused, prodded at the statement, "What do you mean you can't tell if they like each other? They're married."
"Well, yes they're married now. You can't tell anyone you know this, but-" Sehr began, dropping what she was doing so she could whisper the gossip without her husband hearing, "Ranya was supposed to marry Salman. Saad hasn't seen her in years. Not a lot of people know Ranya was going to marry his brother, and even those that do don't really care since there's more interesting gossip about others."
Eyes wide, Sana felt a sense of hope that maybe she could achieve what she had wanted to for quite some time. Saad had always been the guy she liked, the guy she wanted. She was used to getting her way, since everything in her life seemed to work out for her. Everything except for relationships. I wonder why.
"So you think it's all an act?" Sana asked, realising she had something to fuel the fire. Ammunition to use to her advantage.
Shrugging, Sehr continued cleaning, "Could be. But I feel like by now, after being married for some time, there's no way they don't have some kind of feelings for each other."
Seated at her desk, she wore a look of anger. Anger at herself especially for ruining her relationship with Saad. So far it had seemed as though he could've grown closer to her, closer than when they were at school together. But after her comment, and the way he glared daggers at her this morning- it seemed impossible.
Slamming her laptop shut, she decided she'd rather do something about it than sit around and sulk. Grabbing her purse, realising coffee might be a good icebreaker, she made her way to the first floor to grab a drink for him and herself.
Heels clacking against the marble floors, she rushed towards his office, hoping he was in there. Just across his door sat his secretary, another girl Sana despised and hated having to deal with.
"Is Saad in there?" She asked, glancing at the receptionist as she placed the drinks on the counter.
"Yes, but he's busy. You can come back later, or I can let him know-"
"I don't think so." Sana interrupted, forcibly smiling, hoping it would come across as sincere when it just looked demented. Ignoring the receptionists comments, she broke through the doors as if she had a mission to accomplish.
