Ranya was a stubborn girl. Always had been. It was one of the traits she hated about herself. Sometimes she wished she could be different, but in instances like this, she couldn't be more thankful for her resilience. In fact, she wished she had been far more stubborn before, maybe it wouldn't helped her aching heart.

"Ranya come on, let it go please." Saad begged, standing before her like a criminal on trial.

"No! Saad, leave me alone I've had it with you." Ranya complained, standing on the edge of the railing as she tried to hang the flowers the right way.

"Ranya, you're gonna get hurt!" Saad complained, his heart beating rapidly as he watched her teeter on the edge, the only direction she could fall being backwards. That too 10 feet below her.

In celebration of Saad getting an academic award, his parents had decided to throw him a small party, celebrating his achievement. Of course, Ranya had to take part in it. Both as a guest and as a planner. Somehow, she managed to avoid killing herself while hanging up the flowers, much to Saad's relief.

"You know I don't care what the flowers look like, right? There was no point in risking your life for the perfect wreath." Saad followed behind her as she made her way into his garage, looking for the box his bother had described.

Ignoring him, she paced around the room, looking by her feet, behind all sorts of junk, but finally seeing the box at the top of a shelf. Saad followed her gaze as she looked up at it, making her way towards the box. Fearing she'd try to balance herself on something that couldn't possibly be safe, he pulled the box out for her.

"Saad I don't need your help! I can do this myself, and it's supposed to be a surprise party, get out!" She yelled, grabbing the box out of his hands with a yank, brushing past him to get back to work.

Rolling his eyes, he did the opposite of what she asked, following her back to his backyard once again. Just as Ranya approached the fence, she was clearly struggling to balance the very heavy box in her hands.

"Right, I can see that you've got it-" Saad slipped his hand under the box, catching it before it fell directly onto her feet, "-Under control."

"Shut up." She lightly elbowed him in the chest, taking the box back as she bit back a smile at his concern. It was endearing knowing he cared so much. "It was just slippery."

"It's made of cardboard." Saad smirked, crossing his arms as he leaned against the tables in his yard. "Or have they updated the formula and added something slippery?"

"Are you done? I have a lot of work to do and all this yapping you're doing isn't helping me work faster!" Ranya shot back, placing the box on the table with a non approving look, although she was enjoying this far more than she hoped to lead on.

Running her hands through the freshly made curls she had created, Ranya took a step back from the mirror to get a better look of her ensemble. It wasn't everyday that your best friend gets engaged, so she knew she had to look good. As good as possible considering the way her skin and hair had been looking from all the work stress, and the added stress of living in a home that didn't feel like hers.

Going out of her way to avoid Saad had been a lot more work than she anticipated. Now that she wanted to avoid him, he was inescapable, but when she wanted him around, he was nowhere to be found. She wasn't new to silent treatment, but it would be more effective if Saad cared at all. The couple of times they would run into each other, the most Saad would say is a courteous hi, other times not even that. Just a tight lipped smile, brushing past her like speaking to her didn't matter.
