When Harper entered her form group, her eyes met none other than the dark ones of Ivy. Harper took a deep breath as she sat in her seat.

"You're back.." Ivy observed, pretending she didn't care all that much.

"Yeah. I am. Miss me?" Harper tried to joke, though she could feel her throat getting thick with possible tears.

"Not really. Why weren't you at school?" Ivy asked.

".. My dog died. And um.. It was just really hard for me cause I had her since I was a baby and.. Yeah." Harper said, trying her best to sound the least pathetic as she could.

"That sucks." Ivy shrugged.

"Yeah, it does." Harper mumbled. She didn't know why Ivy was so cold towards her, towards everyone really.

Ivy nodded, glancing at Harper and then back to the desk.

".. What breed?" Ivy asked randomly.

"A golden retriever. Her name was Daisy." Harper said.

Ivy nodded in response.

Eventually, it was lunch time. Harper made her way to the table her and her friends always sat at.

"Hello.. " Harper said as she sat down.
Rory, Bea, and Jessie knew what happened since Harper told them, but they hadn't seen her since it happened. Jessie especially also loved Daisy.

"I'm so sorry about your dog.." Rory said.

"It's fine.." Harper shrugged.

"We know how much you loved her. I loved her too" Jessie said, though her mouth was full with some noodles, but she quickly swallowed and gave a sad look.

"It's fine, not your fault.."

"We know that.. But we can still be good friends and give our sympathy." Rory said, tying her golden hair in a high ponytail.

"Well thanks then." Harper said, now eating her food. Like the past few days, Harper caught herself looking at Ivy.

"Is she your friend now?" Bea asked.

"Ivy? Um..We just talk sometimes in form, that's it. I don't have any other classes with her.. Except art or something" Harper answered.

"You know who her dad is, yeah?" Rory then said.

"Who?" Harper groaned.

"Ben Hope. I heard he was a really pissy guy when he was younger." Rory finished.

"So? What does that have to do with Ivy?" Harper asked.

"Like- generational trauma or something like that." Jessie shrugged.

"Yeah. If her dad is a dick, she probably is too." Rory said.

"She hasn't done anything particularly dick-ish.. Not to me, anyway."

"Oh. Well. You never know."

"She'll never replace you guys, if that's what you're scared of" Harper scoffed, smiling softly.

"She better not!!" Bea smiled, poking Harper's cheek.

"She's not!! Calm down.." Harper giggled.

When school ended Harper stood by the gates, waiting for her brother like usual. She scrolled on tiktok. A video of Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega video came up and for some reason, Harper instantly felt her face heat up. She gulped and glanced around before looking back at her phone. She finished watching the video and quickly scrolled passed it.

When Oscar finally arrived, she walked home with him. That night, Harper found herself watching more tik toks of pretty girls, and boys.

Harper thought to herself.
