╰┈➤ ᯓᡣ𐭩 chapter thirty-two

Day 11 began like any other since Sayako started caring for Sukuna's injuries. She strolled into the room with her usual pep, her purple eyes gleaming with energy, fully expecting their daily ritual of witty banter, snarky remarks, and maybe even some teasing from Sukuna.

But the moment she stepped inside, something felt... off. Sukuna sat in silence, his back propped against the headboard, staring off into the distance. His usual aura of playful arrogance was gone, replaced by something heavier, almost unsettling. He didn't even glance her way, let alone greet her with his smug teasing 'You're late again, woman' or 'Come to admire me?'

Sayako frowned slightly but pushed on, refusing to let his silence dampen her spirits. "Good morning!" she chirped, setting down the bandages and the balm on the nearby table. "Ready for me to wrap you up like a mummy again? I'll make you the most fashionable mummy in town."

Nothing. Not even an eye roll or a scoff.

Sayako's frown deepened as she sidled closer to him, squinting at his face like she was searching for clues. "Did you lose a bet with Uraume? Wait- did you ask that snake for advice and it backfired?"

Still nothing.

Now this was getting weird. Sukuna was many things-arrogant, sharp-tongued, insufferable- but quiet? Never. His silence felt like an ominous storm cloud hanging over the room, and for the first time in a long while, Sayako felt a prick of concern worm its way into her chest.

"Okay, your majesty," she said, more softly now, as she picked up the balm and started her task of tending to his wounds. "What's going on? Did I... do something wrong?"

Her fingers moved lightly over his skin as she applied the balm, but Sukuna didn't even flinch. He just sat there, still staring straight ahead, his jaw tight. He was usually quick to complain about the coldness of the balm, or make some offhand comment about her "delicate" touch, but today... nothing. Not a single word. { beta reader: is bro trying to not break his unfocused eye challenge }

"Sukuna," Sayako tried again, her voice now barely a whisper. "Please. Talk to me."

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Sukuna spoke. But his words were cold, clipped. "Don't talk." { beta reader: you dont tell me what to do brat }

Sayako froze, her hands hovering over his arm, her heart plummeting like a stone. Had she done something to upset him? Was he angry at her? She couldn't remember anything that would warrant this level of coldness from him, and the fact that he wouldn't even look at her made her chest tighten.

She worked in silence, the usual playfulness and teasing absent. The room felt heavy, the air thick with tension. By the time she finished bandaging him, Sayako's energy had drained, leaving her feeling uncharacteristically subdued. She tied the last bandage with a small, absent-minded tug and stood up, brushing off her hands, not sure what to do next.

"Well..." she said, her voice quieter than usual. "I guess I'll-"

Before she could finish her sentence, Sukuna's hand shot out, grabbing her wrist with a surprising amount of force. Sayako yelped, more out of surprise than pain, as he pulled her down onto the futon beside him with one smooth motion. Her heart did a flip as she found herself sitting right next to him, her shoulder pressing against his, her pulse pounding in her ears. { beta reader: is bro drunk... }

"S-Sukuna?" she stammered, her wide eyes darting up to his face, trying to read his expression.

He didn't say a word. Instead, he leaned in closer- much closer- his face just inches from hers. Sayako's breath hitched in her throat as her brain tried to catch up with what was happening. Was he going to yell at her? Was he going to-

Before she could finish the thought, Sukuna's lips brushed against her cheek, soft and warm, lingering there for several heart-stopping seconds. { beta reader: he had a wet dream I'm telling you }

Sayako's mind went blank. Her heart raced, her cheeks flushed, and all she could do was sit there, frozen like a statue, as the King of Curses -her Sukuna- kissed her cheek. This was not part of their usual routine. This was... way outside their routine.

For what felt like an eternity, Sukuna stayed there, his lips pressed against her skin, his breath warm against her cheek. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think... was this real? Was he actually kissing her?

After what seemed like a lifetime (but was probably only a few seconds), Sukuna finally pulled back. His lips hovered near her ear, and when he spoke, his voice was low, dangerous, and filled with that familiar teasing edge.

"You're getting to me," he murmured, his breath tickling her skin. "Better be careful, woman."{ beta reader: i think i was right about the dream }

Sayako's brain completely short-circuited. Getting to him? Did he mean that in a good way? A bad way? She didn't even know how to respond. Her mouth opened and closed a few times like a fish out of water, but no words came out. Her heart was racing so fast she was sure it would burst right out of her chest.

For a moment, neither of them moved. Sukuna leaned back, watching her with that smug, knowing look, like he enjoyed every second of her flustered state. Sayako, on the other hand, was still processing the fact that the King of Curses had just kissed her cheek, and her brain was not handling the information well.

Before she could say anything, there was a knock at the door. Sayako practically jumped out of her skin at the sound, and one of her maids called from the other side. "Lady Sayako, we need your help with something in your room!"

Sayako scrambled to her feet, her face redder than Yuna's hair. "R-Right! I'm Coming!" she squeaked, trying to regain her composure.

As she reached the door, she glanced back at Sukuna, who was now watching her with that infuriating smirk, his red eyes gleaming with amusement. "Goodbye, woman," he said lazily, clearly enjoying her flustered state far too much.

Sayako shot him a glare, though it was completely undermined by the fact that her face was still as red as a tomato. "Goodbye," she muttered, her voice wobbling embarrassingly. She bolted out of the room, her footsteps echoing in the hallway.

The moment she was out of sight, she pressed a hand to her burning cheek, her mind spinning in a thousand directions. Sukuna kissed her. He kissed her.

By the time she reached her maid, she was practically glowing red. The maid raised an eyebrow, then reached out to touch Sayako's forehead. "Lady Sayako, are you feeling well? You're burning up."

"I-I'm fine!" Sayako stammered, waving her hands in front of her face to cool herself down. "I just need some air. Lots of air."

She hurried off, leaving her maid thoroughly confused, while her mind spun in circles. 'What the hell just happened?!'
