╰┈➤ ᯓᡣ𐭩 chapter fifty-two

As the wedding day approached, Back with the girls the scene was nothing short of organized chaos. Sayako sat in the middle of the room on a small cushion, looking almost statuesque, except for the fact that her expression screamed Help me.

Around her, women were running around at lightning speed, each determined to perfect every inch of the bride-to-be. One was meticulously applying her makeup, another fussing over her hair, two more painting her nails, and a small army of others tugging at her kimono to ensure it didn't so much as wrinkle. The room felt like a whirlwind of fabric, brushes, and chatter. { beta reader: i'd feel so overwhelmed man }

Michiko, with her usual flair for drama, was overseeing it all, perched comfortably on a cushion with a cup of tea in hand. "You know, Sayako," she said, sipping casually, "this must be how the Queen felt right before her coronation." She grinned. "Except, you know, maybe with fewer people trying to smother her."

Sayako shot her a tired look as Yuna darted by, carrying an array of hairpins in her hands. "I swear, if one more person touches my hair..."

"Oh, stop whining," Yuna said, grinning as she inserted yet another pin into Sayako's already intricate updo. "You'll thank me later when Sukuna can't take his eyes off you."

"I think Sukuna would prefer if I still had circulation in my head," Sayako muttered as yet another hairpin found its way into her scalp.

Meanwhile, Saori was fluttering around her daughter, checking and rechecking every detail. "Are you comfortable, darling?" she asked, though it was clear from Sayako's glazed-over expression that comfort was a distant memory. { beta reader: poor girl }

"I'm fine, Mother," Sayako responded weakly, though her eyes seemed to say otherwise. Her kimono was so tightly wrapped that breathing felt like an afterthought. { beta reader: bro.... }

"Oh no, you're not falling asleep on me!" Kaede suddenly declared, swooping in with a jarring clap of her hands near Sayako's face. Sayako jolted upright, her eyes snapping open as Kaede grinned triumphantly. "I've seen that look before! You were about to nod off!"

Sayako groaned. "I'm not-" she paused, yawning, "-sleepy"

The woman working on her nails leaned closer. "Please don't move. I've been perfecting this design for the last ten minutes. One wrong move and it's over."

Sayako gave her a helpless nod, trying her best not to flinch as Yuna added a final decorative pin to her hair. "There. Perfection," Yuna declared proudly.

Suddenly, one of the older women, clutching a large pot of tea, rushed in and nearly stumbled over a stray cushion. "Tea! We need tea for energy!" she exclaimed breathlessly, sloshing some of the liquid onto the floor. { beta reader: ......this is a disaster }

Sayako looked at the tea with a mixture of exhaustion and amusement. "Tea's not going to help me. I need a nap."

Yōko, who had been quietly adjusting the flowers in Sayako's hair, chuckled. "Unfortunately, naps aren't on the schedule today, Sayako. But don't worry, after the wedding, you'll get plenty of rest."

"Or none at all," aoi teased, waggling her eyebrows. "I mean, it is gonna be your wedding night after all." { beta reader: its seriously a mystery to me how people have the energy to do all that after A WEDDING like thats so tiring }
