As the crowd continued to surround Sayako and Sukuna, Hiroshi approached, his pace measured. He stopped short of hugging Sayako, knowing deep down that he no longer had the right. That part of his life, the crush he once harbored for her, was something he had left behind, or at least, tried to. { beta reader: all the men are just getting heart broken }
But as he stood there, his gaze wandered. He saw something in Shirogane's eyes that gave him a pause. That same flicker of envy... the same one he himself had hidden when he first realized Sukuna was the man Sayako wanted. It was like looking into a mirror of his own emotions. { beta reader: stop....}Hiroshi took a breath and slowly made his way toward Shirogane, standing a few feet behind him before speaking in a low voice. "You envy him too, don't you?"
Shirogane stiffened, immediately turning to face Hiroshi, shock written across his face. How had someone seen through him so easily? He had been so careful... masking his emotions, keeping his feelings tightly locked away. Yet Hiroshi, of all people, had managed to read him like an open book.
Shirogane shook his head, quickly trying to deny it. "I don't know what you're talking about."
But Hiroshi gave him a knowing look, his eyes reflecting the understanding of someone who had been through the same struggle. "You don't have to pretend with me. I know that look... because I've had it too."
Shirogane's throat tightened, his denial dying in his mouth. For a moment, he was silent, and the weight of Hiroshi's words hung between them. He didn't need to respond. They both knew the truth, and acknowledging it out loud wouldn't change anything.
Unbeknownst to them, Uraume stood nearby, their sharp mind always attuned to the subtle shifts in the atmosphere. As Hiroshi spoke, Uraume's attention was drawn to the quiet conversation. Their eyes narrowed slightly, taking in Shirogane's reaction and the quiet exchange between him and Hiroshi. Something about it felt... off.
Then Hiroshi's words lingered in their mind: envy of Sukuna. Uraume began piecing things together, and for the first time, a seed of suspicion took root. 'Could Shirogane have been the one who told Junko to poison lady Sayako's breakfast?' The thought hit Uraume like a cold wave. They had brushed off the possibility before, but now, something in Shirogane's demeanor made them reconsider. That unreadable look in his eyes... it wasn't just envy. It was something more. { beta reader: instincts are never to be ignored }
Still, Uraume remained silent, their face betraying none of their inner thoughts. Everyone around them was basking in the joy of the reunion, and they wouldn't be the one to cast a shadow over it, not now. But this suspicion wouldn't be ignored. They would have to keep an eye on Shirogane and tread carefully from here on.
For now, Uraume allowed the laughter and the light-hearted conversation to continue, but in the back of their mind, they couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. They made a mental note to investigate further, when the time was right.
