When I woke up, the first thing that hit me was the weight of my exhaustion. The sun streamed through the blinds, soft light spilling into my room, but I could barely open my eyes.
Last night had been... a lot.
I turned over in bed, pulling the blanket tighter around me. The memories came rushing back—laughing so hard my stomach ached, being squished on that tiny air mattress with everyone, and West.
We didn't get home until two in the morning. My eyelids were still heavy with sleep, but I remembered standing outside Cole's car in the cool night air, saying our goodbyes.
I dragged myself out of bed, my body sluggish from the late night. The clock read 11:30 a.m. That's not too bad, I thought.
The house was quiet when I made my way downstairs, the smell of breakfast still lingering in the air. Mum was in the kitchen, putting dishes away.
"Morning, Madi," she greeted me with a small smile as I walked in, rubbing my eyes.
"Good Morning," I mumbled, still half-asleep. I poured myself a bowl of cereal. My dad walked in a few minutes later, pulling on his jacket.
"You heading out?" I asked through a mouthful of cereal.
He nodded. "Yep, just for a few hours. Got a few things to sort out. You staying out of trouble today?" He shot me a playful look, ruffling my already messy hair as he passed.
"Of course. It's not like I ever get into trouble." He laughed, the sound light and easy as he grabbed his keys.
"Alright, well, stay safe tonight," he said, giving me a quick hug. "Tell your mum I'll be back by dinner."
"Will do. Bye, Dad!" I called as he headed out the door.
Mum was still around, tidying up the kitchen, but she disappeared upstairs after a while, leaving me alone in the kitchen with Aiden, who was sitting at the counter scrolling through his phone while eating toast.
"Hey," I said, breaking the silence. "You coming to the party tonight?"
He looked up from his phone, raising an eyebrow at me before shaking his head. "Nah. Got plans."
"Oh? What kind of plans?" I asked, leaning against the counter, eyeing him suspiciously.
"Maya," he muttered, trying to act nonchalant.
"Ohhhh, Maya, huh?" I teased, a grin spreading across my face. "When were you gonna tell me about this?"
Aiden groaned, shoving the rest of the toast in his mouth like it could somehow stop me from talking. "Shut up."
"Aw, c'mon, it's cute! You've got a date, huh?" I was relentless now, smirking as he tried to look anywhere but at me.
"It's not a date," he mumbled through his toast. "We're just hanging out."
"Yeah, sure," I said, drawing out the words, clearly not buying it. "Tell Maya I said hi."
He shot me a glare, but I could see the faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "You're impossible."
I laughed, "It's my job."
The rest of the morning passed quickly, and before I knew it, the afternoon was creeping up.
