Madisons POV:
I blink awake, and the quiet of the tent feels strange.
That's when I realise what's happening, me and West shared a tent last night and we were...close.
But now he wasn't here, the spot beside me is empty, and the morning chills aren't really helping.
My stomach twists, just a little, he wouldn't have left for no reason. Maybe I read too much into our interactions, maybe it didn't mean that much to him.
I push the thoughts away and slip outside, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I look around.
The group is scattered around the place, already laughing and talking, but it's West who catches my attention.
He's with the guys, looking ridiculously awake.
I take another step towards the site, and as if on cue his eyes snap to mine. A little smile tugs at his mouth, and I feel the knot in my chest relax immediately. He walks over to me, leaving the others behind.
"Morning," I smile at him.
"Good Morning," he replies.
Before he could say anything else, I furrowed my eyebrows, "Where'd you disappear to so early?"
He clears his throat, looking away "Just...needed some air." His voice sounds forced.
I raise an eyebrow, tilting my head, "Air?"
The faintest hint of red creeps up his cheeks, and I nearly laugh.
He shifts, giving me a look, "Mads..."
I smirk, ready to dig a little deeper, but we're interrupted by Cole calling us over. "If you two are done with your sweet 'good mornings' come here. We're planning the day!"
**********
It was around afternoon, we'd decided to explore another trail up to a smaller mountain.
The hike starts off simple enough. But about halfway up, the terrain gets muddier, and things start going wrong in the best possible way.
It begins with Jake, who misjudges a muddy patch and loses his shoe to the swampy ground with a loud squelch.
He freezes, one socked foot in the air, staring down at his muddy shoe like it's personally betrayed him.
"Fucking hell," he mutters under breath, then proceeds to fall forward while trying to free his shoe.
He groans loudly, while the rest of us stand behind laughing at him, I can't even pretend to feel bad.
"No it's okay guys, just laugh at your friend while he's in trouble. That's fine, I'll manage." he says, sarcastically, making us laugh even harder.
West can't resist, laughing as he pulls out his phone to snap a photo of him.
"Now, this, is going to be up at your wedding," he says.
Cole smirks, "Alright, we've got a Cinderella situation here. Who's going to kiss the shoe free?" he looks up, more specifically at Em for a second to long.
