My eyes find your unfocused ones,
We sit across a small table on a date night that was supposed to be fun.
The warmth of the latte from the cafe long evanesced,
When you told me you wanted to talk, the silence begun.

I pause, heart hammering, my fists clenched tight,
Your warmth still lingered in the hand I chose to withdraw.
Like a sinking ship drifting too far from the shore, I watch the way your eyes dart away,
Like the last light before night, a flicker of remorse overtakes day.

Words dripped like unrefined poison from your mouth,
Coarse ashes clung to the hem of my white dress,
Where your hands once held me close,
Now, digging deep like an invisible dagger, a wound unclosed.

You told me her name in a breathless whisper,
Our forever was mine; how could you give it to her?
You said it was a mistake, but irony smirked,
Now, where do I go in this black, ashen gown, heart churned?

With our immaculate story now laid to waste,
Look at me, look at me, the ruin that I've become.
I am lost deep in this unchosen labyrinth of silent sorrows,
Wandering under a sky once ours, now eclipsed, cloaked in shadows.
