The Lonely Daffodil

AmidSt the glow of the brightened cOsmos,

In an enclosure cleansed by stilled sunshine,

red, ruddy, and ruefully blossomed roses

stood as silent sentinels to the witherindaffodil.

It had once lingered in an elixir

of efferVescent Elegance—

lithe, lissom, fUll of luminescence.

Yet the satire of Paradox was pronounced-

The spring-flowering perennial grew only in clusters.

The Showy, trumpet-shaped blossom had already

shed five Of its tepals, bestrewn on the table.

Yet the last petal clung to the quIvering core,

measured aGainst each tremendous second.

The propInquity of roses was evident—

their Vanity, their pride, their pity.

It always takEs two to tango,

Yet who heard the daffodil's lonely woe?

The bold petal released its grasp,

falling from the wailing core,

descending into an elegant ballet

of sUrrender, acceptance, capitulation.

The Paradox of the illumed sky

and the majestically frowning roses remained.

We meet eye to eye—

yet dare we weather the storm? Why?

The truth is cruel, yet it is true:

the pictureSque blooms, the quintessential examples,

were fOrever roses.

No matter how sanguIne, how sumptuous,

or even blessed, beneath syzyGy's miraculous alignment—

The daffodIls never prevail.

In the end, beloVed, the ship of blEnding-in has long sailed.

We live on an island where cloUds lurk,

and daffodils—

lonely, tender, rigid

never belonged

in a rose-filled

 Planet.
