one fine day,
under the delicate dance
of stars and their master,
the silver, gorgeous moon,
i think i saw you
but wait, it might have been
my rampant imagination
learning new tricks.
but then you waved.
stepped closer.
and suddenly the night
corrected herself.
and, oh.
and, wow.
you were real.
and you were here.
the tides rolled back
to the beachfront,
and the rain showered
on the tender, cherry blossoms.
the way fog learns a shoreline,
not touching everything at once,
just enough to stay.
nothing about it made sense,
yet there it was, settling.
i laughed too easily.
you listened too closely.
something unnamed
set its bags down between us.
and without ceremony,
without permission,
my heart did that quiet thing
the one where it rearranges itself
to make room before asking why.
by the time i questioned it,
it had already begun.
