Anuj Kapadia sat in his expansive office in New York, gazing out at the vast skyline that stretched before him. Life had given him everything-success, wealth, status-but even the heights of this achievement couldn't overshadow the heavy guilt that weighed on his heart. His thoughts often drifted to Mukku, the sister he had failed, his regrets like chains he couldn't break free from. But there was another name, another regret that time had failed to erase: Anupamaa.
Unlike Mukku, Anupamaa was a name that had remained distant. They had never spoken, never even been friends. He had seen her in college, and admired her from a distance, but she had never known him. She was his secret love-one he had kept locked away for decades. He had watched her, the bright, innocent girl who didn't even know he existed. Even now, the thought of her stirred something deep within him.
He knew she was married now, had a family, but the questions still haunted him: Kya wo khush hai? Kya uska sapna pura hua? Kya uske jeevan mein wo muskurahat hai jo uske chehre par college ke dino mein thi?
Anuj had made a decision that day-he would return to India, but not for business or for Mukku. He would go for her. He didn't expect anything, nor did he plan to disrupt her life. He just needed to see her-Anupamaa. Maybe, just maybe, after all these years, his heart would find closure.
He picked up his phone and dialed the one person who could help him-Devika, a friend from college who was now close to Anupamaa. The phone rang, and his heart pounded as he waited for her to answer.
"Hello, Devika?" Anuj's voice was unsure, almost hesitant.
"Haan kaun? Arre Anuj? Tu kaise yaad kar liya bhai!?" Devika's voice was warm and familiar, full of playful nostalgia.
"Tu toh jaanti hai main bada vyast hota hoon," Anuj chuckled, his nervousness beginning to fade. "Par... ek kaam tha tujhse."
"Kya baat hai? Kapadia ko mujhse kaam ho? Bata bhai, kya madad chahiye?" Devika's voice carried the same teasing tone it always had, but there was a hint of curiosity too.
Anuj paused for a moment before speaking, his heart in his throat. "Main... main Anupamaa se milna chahta hoon."
There was silence on the other end for a moment. "Anupamaa?" Devika's voice softened. "Tu... tu jaanta hai na ki wo ab shaadi-shuda hai? Khaandaan hai uska, bachche hai."
"Haan, mujhe sab pata hai. Main usse kuch nahi maangne jaa raha, bas dekhna chahta hoon ki wo khush hai ki nahi," Anuj's voice faltered as he admitted his long-hidden wish.
Devika sighed. "Anuj, tujhe pata hai na... wo tujhe jaanti bhi nahi hai?"
"Main jaanta hoon. Kabhi baat nahi hui usse... par college ke dino se wo mere dil mein hai," Anuj said quietly. "Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye usse, bas ek baar dekhna chahta hoon."
Devika remained silent for a moment, then finally spoke. "Main tera dard samajhti hoon. Par Anuj, Anupamaa ab bilkul alag insaan hai. Uska jeevan aage badh gaya hai."
"Main samajhta hoon, Devika. Bas ek baar... ek baar," Anuj's voice was filled with a mix of hope and melancholy.
"Thik hai, main tujhe address de dungi. Shah House mein rehti hai. Par yaad rakh, kuch umeed mat rakhna, Anuj."
"Kuch nahi chahiye, Devika. Bas uski khushi dekhni hai," Anuj assured her, his heart heavy but resolute.
