Rory was already at her computer typing away. "Was it these people?" She asked turning around the screen showing me three mug shots of the tall one, the big one, and Shorty.
Bingo. Jackpot. X marks the spot. "Yep, it was those three."
"It looks like their names are Dean, Don, and Dan." Dean being the tall one, Don being the big one, and Dan being Shorty.
"Yeah, it was them." I remember someone from work talking about them. These guys are not going to get away with this.
I needed to think of something to do. What could I do? I could call the police. That would be horrible and it would never go through. I could hire an assassin, I don't have enough money that I want to spend, and I feel like that could go south quickly. I guess I could do something myself, but what?
I could sue them... ha! That wouldn't work. I could tell them right from wrong. That wouldn't get me beat up again. I could dress up in spandex and beat them up. That's ridiculous.
"Would it be ridiculous if I became a hero and get some people back?" I asked the gang.
"NO! It would be really cool!"Jeb said jumping up and down on the couch.
"What?" I looked at him, thoroughly confused.
Jeb looked at me and repeated what he said. "It would be cool of you were a superhero."
"I'm not going to listen to you. Rose what do you think?" I said as Jeb started running around swinging his sword.
Rose stood up on the couch and jumped."It would be cool!"
"What did you say?" I wanted to make sure I heard that correctly.
"I said it would be cool." Rose said giggling.
I pushed her down making her flop on the couch. Rory would tell the truth. "Rory can you talk some sense into these guys?" I knew she would be on my side
I didn't get the response I wanted. "I think it would be kinda interesting."
These kids must all be high. They are crazy. "You're all crazy."
Was this crazy? Was it crazy that I was thinking about doing this? It would only be a one time thing. I got up and walked to my room. Looking around I found some old costume stuff and some old army clothes, and I got to work.
After a few hours, more like six, I put on my suit. I took the goggles I found and placed them over my eyes. I kind of looked like a superhero.
Now what would a superhero say? I channeled my inner mix of beloved heroes from comic books. "I am in the shadows. I roam the streets at night. I keep the streets safe. I stand behind justice. I am the Guardian. I save the good, and defeat the bad. But no one must know who I am."
"Tobias, who are you talking to?" Rose stood in the doorway. Behind her was Jeb and Rory.
I picked Rose up and herded them into the living room where they had left Jeremiah. "You guys you can't say my name when I am in my suit."
"This is your costume?" Jeb said looking at it.
"Yes it is." I said as I smiled proudly.
"Moo." Jeremiah said bouncing up and down his chair.
Rory looked it up and down. "I will need to fix some things on it."
"Why?" I asked.
Rory glared at me. "It could use a few modifications." She thought it looked ugly.
I worked hard on this. "None of you guys are over the age of twelve so stop telling me what I'm should do."
"I'm fourteen years old, not twelve. Do you want a bullet in your body?" Rory looked at me.
I sighed and groaned, "No."
"Then change and I'll fix it." Rory said grabbing her a tool box from under the sink. I took it off, leaving me in my underwear.
I threw the suit at Rory. It hit her head. "Fine. I only need it for one time so don't waste too much time."
She removed the suit from her face and smirked. "I never waste my time."
--**--_--**--_--**--_--**--_--**--_--**--_--**--
I had been watching reruns of Dance Moms when Rory walked in front of the TV. "There you go." She threw the suit at me.
I held it up to get a better look at it. "This is amazing. It looks pretty cool." It was better than my suit.
"Ask me how long it took." Rory smirked.
I complied. "How long?"
"Two hours and 24 minutes." She smiled.
Wow, that was a third of the time I had worked on it. "That's awesome."
"Thanks for doubting me." She hit the back of my head.
I turned around and pushed her head."You know that I would never doubt you. I have to go now." I slipped into the suit and made my way to the door.
Rory pulled me back. "No I have to show you a few things."
Things? "Like what?"
She started pointed to all of the modifications she had made.
"These batons here, these will let out an electric shock for anyone who touches them. And they can be turned off by pushing this button. The chest is the main part of this costume of yours that is bullet proof."
She used the C word. "It's not a costume, it's my suit for kicking ass, I mean kicking butt." Shit, I really try not to swear in front of them, but it just slips out sometimes. I'll have to work on that.
Rory rolled her eyes. She didn't care about my swearing, she does it herself. "Whatever. The rest of it is a very tough microfiber."
All this stuff she had was really cool, but I don't remember buying any of it. "Where do you get this stuff?"
She continued with the explanation. "The mask is equipped with night vision so if it gets too dark you push this button and you can see. And I can't tell you where I get most of my stuff. I just need to let you know that I don't do anything illegal."
"Ok, well I'm going to go and do what I need to." I made my way towards the door again.
Rory ran so she was in front of the door. "Wait a second, ding dong."
Ding dong was what she called me when she was little. "I don't like it when you call me that."
Rory eyes were wide. "Are you really just going to walk out of our apartment when you're in your costume?"
There is that C word again. "It's a suit."
"Rule number one of being a superhero, secret identity, dumbass." Rory's sailor mouth was showing itself. But she did have a point.
"Don't use that language around the kids." I jested cracking a smile as I went to change my clothes.
She kept her straight. "And speaking of them, aren't you going to get a babysitter?"
I walked out of my room with some clothes on and my suit in my backpack. "Oh, crap. I'll call Tiffany."
"That hooker?" Rory shouted.
"It's last minute, I'm sorry. Next time I'll find someone different." I stuck my tongue out at her and walked out of the apartment.
Before I closed the door she shouted at me. "You're a cunt!" Now there's another C word, that colorful language she sports for everyone.
