I pulled up to the drop off zone. "Hey have a good day at school." I said as Jeb and Rose ran into the school, waving at me.
Rory got Jerry out of his car seat. "I'll try, but it's a Monday so... Good luck finding a job. Don't forget to look at the gym's around the area." She reminded me.
I nodded, mentally taking that note down. "Yes I will do that. If you need anything, or if anything goes wrong, or just anything, don't forget to call me." I said making sure she understood that.
She rolled her eyes. "We aren't doing a lot today anyway. We are listening to speakers talk about random things like jobs or something." She said looked happy about that.
Kenny walked up behind her. "Which means daddy-o is going to be here." He groaned.
"Hey Kenny." Rory said, smiling at him.
"I'm thinking about skipping, do you want to do that Rory?" He asked right in front of me.
Before she could respond, "No she doesn't." I answered for her.
Kenny smirked at me. "Ok, ok. I was totally joking." He laughed.
"Hey Toby, I think that someone is here that you would like to talk to." Rory said pulling Kenny to walk away with her.
I looked around until I saw her. "Faye?" I shouted getting her attention.
She looked around for who said her name. "Tobias?" She walked over to where my car was.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her.
"I'm here for a presentation. Something about jobs after college or something. What are you doing here? Are you following me?" She asked raising her eyebrow.
"No, I'm not. I was dropping off the hooligans." I said, pointing at Rory who was making faces from afar.
Faye waved at her. "Oh. I didn't know that they went to school here. It would explain the uniforms." She said, putting two and two together.
"So are you going to talk about the newspaper and all that fun stuff?" I asked, commencing the flirtatious talk.
"Yes I am. It's going to be so fun." She exaggerated the fun part of it.
A honk interrupted our conversation. I leaned back to yell back. "I know! Just a second." I turned back to Faye. "Looks like I have to go. Angry soccer moms. So I'll see you later right?" I asked.
"Yeah. Hey, if you need to I could drive them home, so you don't have to come back here." She offered.
"You would do that for me?" I put my hand on my chest, playing it off cool, or like a women in an old time movie.
A head popped out of the van behind me. "Hurry up."
I looked back at who I was about to yell at. "Don't tell me how to live my life, Dian!" Dian was the biggest PTA mom ever, kinda a bitch.
"You should go." Faye laughed, looking back at the van.
"I text you and let you know. Bye." I waved as I drove off.

Just as I walked into the unit to start the job search I hear a song go off. Nsync. "Hey Rory, what's up?" I said as I answered the phone.
"We have a little problem." Rory whispered.
"Why? What's going on?" I asked her, slightly concerned but also a little confused.
"There are people at the school and they have taken over, holding the speakers and everyone who was in the auditorium hostage." She whispered.
Attackers? In the auditorium? Wait, she was in the auditorium. "How are you talking to me then?" I asked.
Rory laughed a little. "Well, me and Kenny kinda ditched." She let out a small laugh. I guess ditching work in this one situation.
"Where are you know?" I asked.
"In a closet. It's nothing bad, we were going to steal the kindergarteners snacks and we heard people. And by people I mean guns." She whispered.
"Where are Jeb, Rose, and Jerry?" I asked, noting that that was my was first thing I thought of when I hear guns.
"In their classrooms. The presentation was for the high school only." Rory said, she sounded relieved.
I let out a breath that I had been holding. "Thank god. Have the police been called?"
"I don't know. Maybe." Rory questioned.
"Is there a way to get in that's hidden?" I asked, not wanting to bring attention to myself when I came in.
Kenny's voice popped in on the conversation. "There are underground tunnels that lead to the sports field."
"Ok, start leading them to that, make sure they are safe. I will get there as soon as possible." I said, grabbing my suit.
"Bring my suit too!" Kenny said.
I let out a tiny groan. "I don't have your suit. Just focus on getting the other kids to safety."
"Will do." Rory said.
I grabbed my duffle. "Don't get hurt please. I'll be there as soon as possible." I said, hanging up the phone and climbing out the window. Whoever was doing this, they made it super personal. And now, they are going down.

I was at the school in no time. As I ran onto the field one of the teachers spotted me. "Did they find us?" She asked blocking me from the children.
I held up my hands. "I'm good! You don't need to worry about me." She nodded at me. I continued towards where the children were popping up. "Make your way towards the end of the field, hide behind the bleachers. Call the police." I shouted.
One of the kids tugged on belt. "Who are you?" He asked.
"I'm The Guardian. I'm here to help. Now go hide." I went to jump in the hole.
"Hey!" I heard from the crowd of children. Towering over the children was Rory, herding children in the direction from behind the bleachers.
"Are you ok?" I asked looking her over to make sure she wasn't hurt.
Rory nodded. "Yes, we got everyone not in the auditorium out." She reported.
"Stay with your siblings. Where is Kenny?" I asked looking around.
Kenny popped up from the hole. "I'm here."
"Lead me through the tunnel." I said, jumping down into the tunnel.
"I can do that." Kenny said, turning around starting to make his way back through the tunnels.
