"Can you direct me to the room that is holding Rory Fitzpatrick?" I asked the secretary at the desk. She pointed down the hallway. "Down the hall and to the left. Room 202." I sped down the direction she pointed.
The doctor was outside of room 202. "Hey, how is she doing?" I gripped her shoulder, startling her as I did.
The doctor removed my hands from her side before she started to talk. "She's fine. Suffered a severe asthma attack. But we got her on some breathing ventilators so we can make sure she is in a stable state. She should be able to leave tomorrow. You can go into the room if you want. I'll be back in a minute with the results from her blood tests." Faye had finally caught up with before I opened the door.
"Hey Rory, how are you doing?" I leaned on her bed.
She looked up at me and smiled lightly. "Peachy fucking keen." Yep, Rory was back to her old self.
I let out a slight laugh. But I needed to let her know what she almost did to me. "You almost gave me a heart attack, Rory. You stopped breathing."
"I did?" She asked me, looking exhausted.
"Yes, you did. The paramedics said so and I saw it." I said trying not to let the tears resurface.
She let out a small laugh, closing her eyes. "I guess I like to be dramatic."
"Do you have any-" I was cut off.
Faye touched my shoulder. "Tobias, let Rory rest. She is tired."
Rory smiled. "Listen to the lady, Toby. Let me sleep."
I sighed messing up her hair. "Fine but if you need anything, and I mean anything at all."
Rory pushed my hand off of her head. "You're right there. Now let me take a nap."
I let out a sigh and smiled at her. "Fine." I sat back as she closed her eyes. I gave Faye a small smile.
Faye reached over from her chair and squeezed my hand. "She'll be fine. Rory is a fighter. I'm going to call my grandma to make sure the others are doing fine." Faye walked out of the room after giving me one last smile.
Just as I was about to close my eyes Rory's doctor walked up. "Tobias, can I talk to you in private?" The doctor walked into the bathroom. She ushered me to follow.
Once I was in the bathroom she closed the door. "What is it?" I asked, a little bit confused of why we were in the bathroom.
"We just received her blood test from the lab." The doctor whispered, holding up a folder.
"And?" I whispered back.
"There was high doses of a fast acting poison native to a small island in the Caribbean." She said flipping through her folder.
Poison? That doesn't make any sense. "Why would she have that in her system?" I asked, my voice was serious.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe someone tried to poison her, it had a fast reaction time." She said looking back at her charts.
"So it wasn't an asthma attack?" That was a shock. But is would explain why she stopped breathing.
"No. Her asthma was doing fine." The doctor whispered ecstatically. "I feel like could have been someone poisoning Rory."
"Why would someone try to poison her?" I asked, mostly to myself by I indirectly asked the doctor as well.
The doctor shook her head. "I don't know. I'm will talk to the police and let them know what happened." She said. making her way out of the bathroom. She stopped before she left the room. "And Rory will be able to go home tonight, the rest of her blood work seemed fine. Just make sure she doesn't work herself to hard." With that the doctor left, leaving me thinking about who could've done this to Rory.
