I walked down to Faye's apartment. "Hey Faye are you there?" I asked while knocking on the door.
There was a click from behind the door. Faye opened the door and smiled. "Hey Tobias how are you?" She asked.
I smiled back. "I just have a quick question." I said leaning on the door frame.
Faye raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, what is it?"
"Kenny Lehman. You know of him?" I asked, making a good segway into what I wanted to know.
She nodded. "Yes. He is the son of Todd Lehman."
"Do you know of these parties he throws?" I asked getting down to business.
Faye thought for a second. "Um, I guess. They always seem kind of wild, but I was never a partier myself."
I stood up. "Ok thanks." I turned towards my door.
Faye stepped out into the hallway. "Wait, what is this about?" She asked.
I shrugged. "Nothing important."
I grabbed Jerry's coat and put it on him. I then turned to Jeb and Rose. "Come on you guys. Put on your jackets. We are going to a party."
* * *
We got to the Lehman building and went up to the floor with all of the noise. When we got off the floor there was a bouncer in front of the door. "Are you on the list?" He asked me.
"Yes. I am. Stay close to me you guys." I pushed past him holding onto Jerry and Rose, with Jeb right behind us.
We were making our way through looking for Rory in the jumble. Someone pulled on my shoulder. I turned thinking it was Rory, but that was not my luck. "I know you. Your name is something right? Rory's dad! You are his father." It was the girl from the field trip who wanted to thought I was cool.
She tried to dance on me. No. Just no."No I'm not. Now get off of me." I pushed her off of me and continued through the crowd. " Do you know where Kenny is?" I asked everyone I walked past over the music.
Most of the answers were the same."NO I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM!"
I asked about a dozen people until I got an answer. "Yeah, he's in the back room. That's where he always is during his party's." A girl shouted over all the noise. She pointed towards the back at a door with a woman blocked the door. I pushed through the crowd to the door.
I gently moved the woman in front of me out of the way. "Sir, you can't go back there." The woman said trying to get me away from the door.
I swung open the door. "Rory!" I barged in with Jeb, Rose, and Jerry in hand.
Rory and Kenny looked up. "Tobias?" Rory questioned, giving me a strange look.
Kenny was up by the door in an instant. "Close the door." He said closing and locking the door behind him.
I looked around the room, slightly confused. There was no loud music. It was a white room, with equations all over the wall."What is going on?" I asked confused at this notion,
Rory pushed away from the table in a desk chair. "We were working on some gadgets for you." She said, turning to face me.
"What?" I asked, trying to get my head around the thought. She told me she was going to a party but not really a party, a "party"... that was being held as a cover to for what there were working on.
Rory let out a laugh when she looked at my confused look. "We knew it would be strange if Kenny kept coming over to the apartment so we decide to meet here." She explained step by step.
"And the party out there?" I asked, gesturing to the hoard of teenager gyrating in the other room.
Kenny made his way back to his chair. "I always throw a party. My dad is weird about that, he thinks that if I don't throw a party that something is wrong with me. Weird right?" Kenny laughed.
"So you aren't drinking at this party?" I asked looking directly at Rory.
Rory picked up a glass of water. "Water. But that's it."
"So you had me worried for nothing?" I asked raising my eyebrow.
Rory shrugged. "I guess."
I rolled my eyes. "You could've told me. That way I wouldn't be the one guy you has to bring all of the young kids to get another one of his kids at a party." I said motioning towards Rory.
"Well you should've just trusted me." Rory said.
"And it's time for bed. You guys can figure this out another time." I said, picking up Rose who was slowly nodding off.
"Fine. Tomorrow will be that test day." Rory declared, grabbing her coat.
"Ok, I can bring the gadgets." Kenny said gathering all of the bits and pieces from the table.
"Are you guys just going to plan something for me without my ok?" I asked.
"Yes." They both returned. And with that we left.
