I was bored one day, and wrote something about Hermitcraft and hybrids and how the hybrids all live in the forest and it was a whole thing I'm not here to get into right now. Anyway I forgot it existed until just now and figured, 'hey, some content'! Here's some of my favourite moments from it. Do be warned, it's brief cuz my phone's about to turn off for the night and I'm lazy. If you have questions, I'll explain tomorrow :)
Edit: aight so hey wassup homies (or at least I hope we're homies) I'm back and fueled by the fact I'm wholly ADHD(forgot to take the meds) so here's a little context and information.
The Forest is supposedly dangerous and deadly, but among the glowing plants and beautiful flowers, little blue dots glowing in the air, it's hard to believe. Little fireflies blink as they drift about, winking to one another as if in code, and Grian feels a sense of peace. This goes on for a few hours, him lost in exploring, until he snaps out of his wonder and realizes he has no idea where he is. "I should've made a path..." he mutters to himself. "A path? Are you lost?" A voice inquires. It belongs to a man, tall, formal-looking with raven-black hair and the most perfect moustache one could have.
^this peice right here was originally the very first intro to this book, but I changed it so it came up a little bit later, more of a building piece than a hook. I still think it works as a hook, though. Feel free to offer your thoughts!(same on the rest of these)
"Oh! You came back?" He asks, sensing the human's presence. "Yeah...I did." Grian ducks his head a moment. How do you start a conversation with a VAMPIRE??
^this was a funny moment I enjoyed. It's an awkward moment for sure, but Grian does raise a point, in that universe, Vampires are things to be feared, not the kind of folk one would expect to engage in casual conversation with.
"Probably not. Your hunters will demand information on us from your time here, and no matter what you say, you are still human. You will tell. And if your kind wants to kill you, then you belong here, now." He answers, voice rough, low, and punctuated by growls, whirs and clicks, and a few hissing noises. Ren nods in agreement. "Yeah, dude! We've all been hurt by humans..." he puts up his wrists. What look like shackle marks are visible, long healed and scarred over. "...so this place is a haven to those who flee from them."
^this part was one of my favourites to write, mostly due to the background information I added in. For myself, it wasn't too much or too little, I hit that sweet point that allowed me to realize that scene in my head.
This was probably meant to be assuring, soothing even, but the man shrinks in on himself even more, clutching his hair and breathing shakily as knees are pressed into his chest. Grian steps forward, crouching beside Ren. The werewolf glances at him, curious, watching to see what he's about to do. "What's your name?" He asks softly, the man moving so he can peek at him with one eye. "Scar." He answers quietly. "Nice to meet you, Scar. My name's Grian. I'm human, too. See? No animal or monster features." Doc growls, but is quickly quelled by a glance from Ren. Grian pulls back his lips to show his teeth, moves to show he has no hidden horns or pointed ears, his back free of spines and wings, devoid of a tail, and holds up his hands to prove he has no claws. Scar stares at them, before slowly reaching out with trembling hands and takes them in his. Scar's hands aren't exactly BIG, but they're bigger than Grian's, the fingers longer, and he grips them tightly. "Why are we here? What do they want?" He asks desperately, Grian feeling a pang of sympathy and emotion for the distraught man.
^I love this one and I'm not exactly sure why, but I think I like how earlier me caused the portrayal and introduction of Scar. He'd been previously controlled by the Vex, and only just then finally snapped out of it. He's meeting Ren, Doc, and Grian for the first time in his eyes, and basically his context is that he got attacked by a possessed Cub, turned into a Vexling, and is only now being released to be himself rather than being possessed. He still fears hybrids and other creatures, as he was taught to, and never really given a reason to think otherwise. I think this is my utter favourite moment, I was definitely cooking here, even if only a little bit.
Scar laughs bitterly. "They could be just getting your trust. Watch, they'll stab you in the back. It's bad enough I'm becoming one of them. Don't let them turn YOU into one as well."
^GOOD CHARACTER LINES. I can usually read something once or twice and then I'll go 'meh, it's alright' but this one still makes me go 'DANGGGGG SCAR'. While he's not a villain, he's definitely not on the heroic side for these hybrids(and feral gremlin human).
