The atmosphere in the choir room was relaxed as everyone lounged around, chatting and laughing. Mike stood at the side, effortlessly demonstrating some dance moves while Tina and Melanie watched closely, trying to keep up.
"Okay, okay, like this?" Tina asked, attempting to mimic Mike's steps but stumbling a bit.
"Almost," Melanie said with a smile. "Your foot needs to pivot this way," she added, gently adjusting Tina's posture and showing her the correct move with a smooth, practiced motion.
Tina groaned, shaking her head with a playful smile. "Look at you, Miss Dancer! I can't even keep up with you anymore. You're getting up there with Mike and Brittany."
Mike nodded in agreement. "Seriously, Mel, you should've done a dance number with us at Sectionals. You would've killed it"
Melanie immediately shook her head, clearly uncomfortable. "Well Clearly it's a good thing I didn't." she replied quickly, brushing off the suggestion.
Both Tina and Mike exchanged a knowing look, then turned back to her. "You don't still feel bad about that, right?" Tina asked gently.
Melanie shrugged, avoiding their eyes as she tried to steer the conversation back to the dance. "Do you wanna try that dance move again?" she asked, ignoring Tina's question.
Tina raised an eyebrow. "Mel, stop. Seriously, you've gotta let it go."
"I have—" Melanie sighed, her voice a bit softer. "But if we're being realistic. Us tying with the warblers was a fluke. If that had happened with any other judges I for sure would have lost us Sectionals."
Mike shook his head firmly. "That was one bad performance out of how many great ones you've had? You can't let that one moment define you."
Melanie was about to respond, probably with another excuse, when she suddenly caught a glimpse of Artie rolling into the room, dripping in red slush. Her eyes widened, a gasp escaping her lips.
"Oh my god, Artie!" Tina exclaimed, following Melanie's gaze.
"It was awful," Artie stuttered, shivering, as Brittany rushed over to him.
"That's it! Screw rehearsal! This ends here and now!" Finn yelled angrily, leaping up, with the other football players quickly following.
"We're going full Thunderdome on these guys," Puck growled, but before the boys could make it out, they were blocked by the non-glee club football players barging into the choir room.
"So this is what the ladies' lounge looks like inside," one of them joked.
"This is the choir room," Sam snapped, fists clenched. "Now put up your fists because you and I are gonna do some dancing."
"No, I got this, Sam," Finn said, placing a hand on Sam's chest, but Sam shoved it away, his glare unwavering.
"Coach Beiste told us to come. Where is she?" Karofsky demanded, looking around.
"Everyone, have a seat," Coach Beiste instructed, walking into the choir room.
"You too, guys," Mr. Schue added, following behind her.
Melanie sat in the back, arms crossed, glaring daggers at Karofsky. Her jaw clenched tighter with each passing second.
"All right, New Directions, let's give a warm welcome to the newest members of glee club," Mr. Schuester announced, causing the choir room to erupt in outrage.
Melanie's jaw dropped, "What?!" She yelled, her glare intensifying.
"Oh, hell to the no, Mr. Schue!" Mercedes snapped, shaking her head in disbelief.
