Melanie frowned at a downcast Tina slouched in her choir room seat, her usual goth look replaced by grey sweats.
"It's so weird," Artie muttered.
"This so isn't you," Finn added, the whole club now focused on the depressed teen.
"I feel like an Asian Branch Davidian," Tina pouted.
"Can Figgins do this? I mean, it's not like the school has a dress code for Tina to break," Melanie questioned.
"Unfortunately, he can," Mr. Schue answered sadly. "Tina, are there any other looks you can try?" he asked.
"Biker chick?" Santana suggested.
"Cowgirl?" Finn added.
"Hood rat," Mercedes threw in.
"Computer programmer?" Quinn offered.
"Cross-country skier?" Britany chimed in.
"Catholic school girl?" Melanie grimaced at Puck's suggestion and slapped his shoulder.
"Happy Meal, no onions... Or a chicken," Brittany said.
Tina shook her head, pointing her thumb down at the suggestions. "Look, I appreciate it, guys, but it just isn't me. I know who I am, and I'm not allowed to show it. It's like communism," Tina said bitterly.
"Maybe we could make a petition, have everyone sign it, and give it to Figgins to show him he can't police our expression," Melanie suggested, earning a few unenthusiastic nods and murmurs from the group.
"Guys, we have a serious problem," Rachel announced, barging into the choir room. "You know I've been doing some deep background on Vocal Adrenaline?" she continued.
"Isn't that against the rules?" Artie questioned.
"No, not at all. Or probably. Whatever! Anyway, what I found out is terrifying. I rooted through the dumpsters behind the Carmel Auditorium, and I found 18 empty boxes of Christmas lights," Rachel informed the club frantically.
Melanie furrowed her brows in confusion.
"Oh no," Tina groaned.
"What?" Melanie questioned.
"Which led me to Joann Fabrics. I asked them about red Chantilly lace. They were sold out," Rachel continued.
"Oh, sweet Jesus," Mercedes mumbled.
"Oh my," Kurt gulped.
Melanie looked around. "Am I the only one who doesn't understand what this means?" she asked.
"I'm just as lost as you are," Finn replied.
"They're doing Gaga," Kurt explained worriedly.
"That's it. It's over," Mercedes groaned, throwing her hands up.
"Exactly," Rachel said, crossing her arms. "We should've guessed it. They're going for full-out theatricality. They know it's the easiest way to beat us. Damn them."
"What's up with this Gaga dude? He just dresses weird, right? Like Bowie?" Puck questioned.
Melanie looked at Puck questioningly before shaking her head.
"Lady Gaga is a woman. She's only the biggest pop act to come along in decades. She's boundary-pushing, the most theatrical performer of our generation. And she changes her look faster than Brit changes sexual partners," Kurt ranted.
"That's true," Brittany confirmed.
"It makes sense that Vocal Adrenaline would pay homage. It's a brilliant move. She's a perfect fit for them," Artie said.
