"A year and a half ago, the New Directions were nothing but a group of six misfits stumbling their way through a horrific rendition of 'Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat.' Now, here we are at the top of the show choir heap—Nationals!" Kurt exclaimed as they all sat on the red steps at Times Square, with water bottles and boxes of sandwiches spraw;ed around them. Melanie smiled, leaning against Sam from her spot in between his legs.

"I want to hit up Central Park and get my frolic on," Tina said brightly, turning to Mike.

Melanie pointed at Tina with an excited smile. "Yes! We have to go to Central Park," she said, looking up at Sam, who smiled down at her.

"I want to throw stuff off the Brooklyn Bridge," Puck added with a mischievous grin.

"Guys, hold on. I mean, we still have two songs to write," Finn said hesitantly.

"Okay, Mr. Bossy Pants," Kurt replied in a sing-song tone, rolling his eyes. "But I think we have some time for a tune before we leave." He turned to everyone with a grin.

"Start spreading the news," Kurt began to sing happily.

"I'm leaving today! I want to be a part of it—New York, New York!" They all joined in, with Melanie laughing as Sam did an impression while he sang.

"Guys, I have news! To celebrate our impending win at Nationals, I got us all 13 tickets to Broadway's longest-running show ever—Cats!" Rachel said, approaching them excitedly.

"Whoo! Yeah, you did?" Brittany cheered, her eyes sparkling.

"You might want to check the dates on those tickets, Rachel, because Cats closed about 11 years ago," Quinn stated matter-of-factly.

Rachel looked at the tickets disappointedly. "He did seem crazy. He charged my credit card by swiping it through his butt crack," she mused, shaking her head.

Melanie grimaced, looking at Rachel. "And you let him?" she questioned, earning a nonchalant shrug from Rachel.

Now in the hotel lobby everyone walked around excitedly as Mr. Schue was busy checking them in at the front desk.

Melanie and Sam walked hand in hand, Melanie looked up at Sam, excitedly.

"I can't believe we actually made it to Nationals in New York... Nationals in New York!" she exclaimed, in disbelief.

Sam grinned back at her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "And I have the perfect New York date planned for you," he said, a playful glint in his eye.

"Is that so?" she asked, stopping in front of Sam with a smile.

"It is." he nodded

"Well do I get a hint of what it is?" She asked

Sam shook his head, leaning down, and they shared a sweet kiss. Just as they pulled away, they heard a dramatic groan from behind them.

"Ugh, you two are so sweet it's sickening," Santana said, pushing past them with a bored expression. "Mr. Schue wants everyone to meet in the hotel room. Let's go."

Melanie rolled her eyes playfully, still holding Sam's hand tightly. "Thanks, Tana!" she called out, with a grin.

"Wasn't a compliment," Santana shot back.

Sam and Melanie exchanged amused glances, shaking their heads and following the group up to the hotel room.

"Did you know that I can get an ahi tartare and a steak sandwich at three in the morning from their all-night dining menu? I feel like Eloise," Kurt said, still in awe that they were actually here.
