25. Silly Love Songs

Melanie stood in line at The Lima Bean with Kurt and Blaine, watching as Kurt grimaced at the Valentine's Day decor.

"Okay, I'm all for flair, but these Valentine's decorations are just tacky," Kurt complained, holding up a plush of two dogs hugging. "I mean, what is this supposed to be?"

"It's clearly puppy love. It's cute, come on," Blaine replied cheerfully, taking the plush. He handed it back to Kurt, squeezing it so that it voiced, "I love you."

"Adorable," Blaine added.

"Okay, this is creepy," Kurt muttered, putting it down. "It's just an excuse to sell candy and greeting cards."

"That's basically every holiday at this point," Melanie pointed out.

"Oh, not you too, Mel," Blaine sighed.

Melanie raised her hands in defense. "Hey, I have nothing against Valentine's Day. I just think it'd probably be a little more fun if I had, oh, I don't know... a valentine."

"You know, people have been celebrating Valentine's Day for centuries," Blaine said with a smile, catching Kurt by surprise. "And call me a hopeless romantic, but it's my favorite holiday."

"Really?" Kurt asked.

"Yeah. I think there's something really great about a day where you're encouraged to just lay it all on the line and say to somebody, 'I'm in love with you,' you know?" Blaine explained, missing the small, longing glance Kurt gave him. "And this year, I want to do something really radical, so I need your opinions on this."

He took a breath before continuing, "There's this guy that I sort of... like. And I've only known him for a little while, but I want to tell him that my feelings are starting to change into something... deeper. So, I have to ask: do you think it's too much to sing to somebody on Valentine's Day?"

Kurt shook his head, a hopeful look in his eyes. "Not at all... right, Melanie?"

Melanie smiled between the two and nodded. "I, for one, would love it if someone sang to me on Valentine's Day."

The three of them stepped up to the counter. "What can I get you?" the barista asked.

"Uh, a medium drip and a grande nonfat mocha for this guy, and maybe I could get him to split one of those cupid cookies," Blaine ordered, pulling out his wallet.

"You know my coffee order?" Kurt asked, surprised.

"Of course I do," Blaine replied, as if it were obvious.

"That'll be $8.40," the barista announced. Kurt reached for his wallet, but Blaine stopped him. "Don't even bother, dummy. It's on me."

Blaine paid and moved to the other side of the counter to wait for the drinks. Melanie gave Kurt a knowing smirk. "What can I get you?" the barista asked, turning to her.

"Uh, a medium mocha latte and two of those cupid cookies," she ordered.

"I do believe I have a new favorite holiday," Kurt chuckled, happily gazing at Blaine.

"Keep me updated on how that goes," Melanie said with a smile, waving as Kurt followed Blaine out.

Later in Glee Club, everyone sat in the choir room as Mr. Schue drew a big heart around the word "love."

"All right, guys. I have one word for you," he began.

Brittany raised her hand excitedly. "Brittany?" he called.

"Is it love?" she guessed. "Totally gonna graduate now," she quietly cheered.

"Valentine's Day is coming up, so for this week's lesson, I want you to pick a partner because you're gonna sing to them what you think is the world's greatest love song," Mr. Schue continued. "Yeah, find a song that communicates all the things that love means to you. Now partner up."
