Sitting in the choir room, Melanie sat with the rest of the girls, humming "Material Girl" as she read a magazine. She had to give it to Coach Sylvester; normally, her antics were crazy, but this time, blasting Madonna in the halls in between classes, she loved it.
"Can I ask you guys something private?" Rachel questioned nervously, looking at the group.
"Yes, you should move to Israel," Santana quipped. Annoyed by the Latina cheerio's insult, Rachel moved a chair to face in front of the girls and sat down seriously.
"It's about dating," Rachel stated. "Not that I'm dating anyone. We all know that Finn and I are no longer an item, and for the sake of the team, I broke up with Jesse," she added quickly. "But let's just say I was dating someone. Let's just say, hypothetically, we went to a Wiggles concert last Friday night—"
"Wiggles? Children's television show Wiggles? The Wiggles hold concerts?" Melanie interrupted, confused. Rachel continued, ignoring the question.
"And then, because my dads weren't home, we went up to my room and started making out. It was erotic and romantic, and then he said..." she trailed off, going into detail of how her "hypothetical" boyfriend, who they all knew was Jesse, wanted to go further than she was ready for. "What if then he got really crabby and left, and didn't even take home the Care Bear I won him playing skeeball?" Rachel continued.
"Would you please stop talking, you're grossing out my baby," Quinn groaned, rubbing her belly, making Santana and Brittany giggle.
"...They had skeeball at a Wiggles concert?" Melanie questioned, clearly focused on the wrong part of the story.
"I just want to be ready; I know I'm getting older, and these things are going to happen someday. But how do I stop a guy from getting mad at me for saying 'no'?" she added worriedly. Melanie looked at the girl sympathetically.
"Just do what I do, never say 'no,'" Santana suggested.
"Oh, totally. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?" Brittany said. "Sorry, Quinn," she added, looking at the pregnant teen.
"That's horrible advice," Melanie stated, looking at the two cheerios.
"Oh yeah, and how would you know, Mousy? Have you even dated anyone?" Santana asked, crossing her arms and staring at the brunette expectantly.
"Y-Yeah, of course I have. I dated tons of guys back in Texas," she stated, hoping the heat rising to her cheeks wouldn't give her away.
"Mhhm... Who exactly?" The Latina pestered, with a raised brow, the rest of the girls turning their attention to Melanie.
"Well, uh... You know, there was Troy, and then Danny, Tony... and O-Of course there was... uhm..." Melanie paused, trying to think. She just had to add one more name, she thought to herself. "And uh, Fi... ye... ro," she said, closing her eyes, knowing she was screwed.
Santana glared at the girl in disbelief. "Did you just list off musical characters?"
"No," Melanie defended a little too quickly.
"Fiyero?" Rachel looked at her with questioning eyes.
"I panicked," Melanie groaned, slumping in her chair.
"The last guy I liked was the mayor of Gaytown. And I can't wait to get a guy mad at me for saying 'no,'" Mercedes said.
"We just have to accept that guys don't care about our feelings," Tina piped up, explaining how Artie had asked her to change her wardrobe and wear tighter clothes.
"That's gotta sting," Rachel told the goth girl sympathetically.
"Hey guys. I'm sorry to interrupt your little sorority, but I couldn't help overhearing. Are you really having that much boy trouble?" Mr. Schue asked, walking over to the girls.
