Don't blame me

Darkness had fallen over the town square of Mystic falls. We had been here for hours, and the fun fare was still raging on. It was a cute set up they had, I had to admit. It seemed that with every year the event got more and more extravagant. Part of me wanted to play a few games, maybe it would help me feel normal for once.

Just as the thought passed through my mind, Damon grabbed my hand tightly with his own and began to pull me through the crowd. "We have a problem." He said in a hushed tone. I swear I must have jinxed it.

"What's wrong?" I asked as he dragged me towards the edge of the park.

"Tomb vampires are here and the founding families are their targets. So I need you to get out of here right now. Go back to the house, I'll come and get you when it's safe." Damon ordered. He turned to face me and placed his hands on my shoulders, staring intensely into my eyes to try and make sure his point got across.

"What? No, Damon, I can help." I argued, not wanting to leave him alone to deal with all of the tomb vampires.

"No, I need you to go." Damon pleaded with me, a desperate look barely hidden in his eyes.

"Elena and Jeremy are still here, I can't." I said with a shake of my head.

"You have to." Damon ordered

"Why?" I asked him exasperatedly

"Because I don't want you to get hurt. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you died and I won't be able to pay attention if you're here. So you have to go." Damon pleaded. His words caught me off guard, and I felt my response die on my tongue as I stared up into his desperate eyes. The fireworks suddenly began to go off in the sky, dragging my attention away from him at the loud crackling bangs.

"Shit. It's too late. No more arguing. Go now." Damon said as he looked up at the brightly lit explosions. He quickly walked away from me, shooting me one last look before he disappeared into the crowd.

I have to find Elena and Jeremy, I can't just leave without them when they are targets too. I walked as quickly as I could, scanning the area for either of my siblings. It didn't take me long to spot Elena. She was hurrying along the path with Stefan by her side.

"Elena!" I called out to her. She stopped walking and turned around, she relaxed ever so slightly when she saw me. But it was a short lived moment of relief as Stefan suddenly cried out in pain and clutched his head. He hunched over slightly, his legs almost giving out underneath him from the pain.

"Stefan?" Elena called out worriedly. "What's going on? What's happening?"

I ran over and crouched down beside him, placing my hand on his back worriedly as he clutched his head in pain. "My head." Stefan groaned out

"What?" Elena asked

"My head." Stefan repeated through gritted teeth

Alaric suddenly ran over to us from across the park. He grabbed Stefan's arm and dragged him up onto his feet. "Get up." Alaric practically demanded as he supported Stefan.

"He just dropped." Elena said. I quickly followed after them down the stairs to a secluded area away from the eyes of the public.

"Yeah, he's not the only one. Cops are just grabbing everyone who's down. Injecting vervain." Alaric said. I felt a jolt of worry in my chest, pulling my lower lip between my teeth nervously.

"What?" Elena asked worriedly

"Yeah." Alaric said. Stefan sat down on the bottom step, finally being obscured from the view of any police.
