I switched off my engine and climbed out of my car, walking up to the front door of the large house. Elena had told me last night that Isobel, her birth mother, had been turned into a vampire by none other than Damon Salvatore himself. And she had asked Elena to stop looking for her.
I opened the front door, not bothering to knock. If Damon can sneak into my room all the time without knocking, then why can't I do the same. I walked through the hallway and into the living room, looking for Damon. But the moment I stepped foot into the living room, my back was pushed forcefully against the back wall.
I grunted at the feeling of pain that spread throughout my back. There was a hand wrapped tightly around my throat. A woman was holding me tightly and keeping me pinned, but I have no idea who she is.
"You smell...familiar." She said as she moved her face closer to mine.
Before the situation could escalate any further, she was suddenly dragged away from me. I barely blinked and she was standing a foot away from me with Damon holding her by the throat.
"Don't touch her." He practically growled at the women
The woman reached up and grabbed Damon's hand tightly. He seemed to struggle against her hold as she dragged his hand away from his throat. She then used her inhuman strength to throw him to the ground. The fact that she was stronger than Damon made me nervous.
"Damon." I said worriedly as I crouched down beside him.
"I'm okay." He said with a slightly wounded expression. His pride was hurt more than anything else.
"Have a seat, Damon." The woman said. I looked up at her only to finally realize that Anna was also in the living room. This must be her mother, Pearl. No wonder I smell familiar to her, my blood is what brought her back from her mummified state.
Damon slowly stood up from the floor and sat down on the couch behind him. I straightened up and stared at the woman who was wearing a business suit. Her stare was intimidating, so I slowly sat down next to Damon, sticking close to his side.
"I was hoping we could have a word." Pearl said
"Sure." Damon said awkwardly as he sat back on the sofa with his arm across the back of the chair behind me. If I sat back, his arm would be around my shoulders. The thought made me flustered, and so I kept my back straight and avoided sitting too far back.
"So, who's your human?" Pearl asked, her eyes scanning me in a dangerous way.
"Althea Gilbert" Damon said, reluctantly introducing me to the woman.
"Interesting. Gilbert, I knew a Gilbert, he was in love with me." Pearl said
"Well, don't count on that happening again." I said, causing Damon to snort.
Pearl looked annoyed, so she turned her attention back to Damon. "We've taken up residence at a farmhouse outside of town. It'll suffice for now."
"All 25 vampires?" Damon asked sarcastically
"Not all, some. I imagine that a few have already left town. Others are probably still in the woods, or like us, acclimating." Pearl said
I glanced over to Damon with wide eyes to see he had a similar expression on his face. Why are we only just finding out now that all of the vampires have escaped the tomb?
"How'd they get out of the tomb?" Damon asked, sounding baffled
"I think the witch screwed up that part of her hocus-pocus." Anna said. I tensed up at her words, but Damon grabbed my arm and shook his head subtly, telling me to keep quiet.
