The air in the forest was thick with tension. I pulled my sleeves over my hands awkwardly as I stood in the middle of Bonnie and Caroline, maybe this was a bad idea. They had barely said a word to each other. Bonnie looked uncomfortable, and almost frightened, while Caroline looked like a kicked puppy.
"Wait. Do you hear that?" Caroline asked as she suddenly froze, her blue eyes widening.
"Hear what?" I questioned with furrowed brows, not hearing anything in the thick forest aside from the occasional bird.
"It's Elena." Caroline said before she vanished into thin air. My eyes widened at her words and I looked at Bonnie. She had a similar expression on her face, though there was a hint of shock on her face from Carlonies vampire speed.
I paused for a moment, reaching out for Caroline's presence so I could follow her to Elena. "Okay, I can sense her. This way."
Bonnie and I quickly ran through the woods, my mind was filled with worry for Elena. But I know she will be safe with Caroline. It took a few minutes, but eventually we caught up to Caroline.
The sight that we stumbled across was a strange one. Caroline was holding tightly to a metal chain, and Elena had the other end tied under her butt like she was going to lower herself down the well.
"Hey, what's going on? You took off in a blur." Bonnie called out as we came to a stop
"I heard Elena screaming. Help her. Now." Caroline said firmly
I moved forward and took her hand, helping her steady herself. Bonnie placed her hands on her back for extra support. As Elena shifted herself so she was hanging off the edge, I looked over the side of the well. It was dark, and I could hardly see what was down there.
"What is going on?" I questioned as I held my sisters hand tightly
"Stefan's down there. The water is vervain." Elena said as she let go of my hand and grabbed onto the metal chain with both hands.
"Oh, god." I muttered, my eyes going wide as I winced at the thought. He must be in so much pain right now, if he is even conscious.
"You ready?" Caroline asked Elena as she rested her feet on the side of the wall.
"Yeah." She nodded. With her say so, Caroline started to lower her down gently. I watched over the edge with worried eyes, my hands gripping the stone wall tightly.
Suddenly, Caroline's grip on the chain slipped, and Elena descended faster into the well. It was only for a second, but my heart rate increased exponentially. Caroline quickly caught the chain and stopped Elena from falling any further.
"Sorry." She called out with a wince.
"It's okay. Keep going." Elena called back, sounding a lot more calm than I felt.
Elena finally made it to the bottom of the well and completely disappeared from view, the darkness of the well swallowing her whole. The only sound that came from below was the soft splashing of vervain filled water.
"Elena, what's going on down there?" Caroline called down to her
"Pull him up!" Elena called back
Caroline grabbed the metal chain and started to pull quickly, trying to get Stefan out of the water as fast as she could. Once Stefan appeared at the side of the well, both Bonnie and I grabbed him from either side and pulled him up onto the edge of the wall.
Bonnie unclipped the chain and I started to pull him over. Caroline rushed over to help us with her vampiric strength, and soon enough we had him on the ground. Bonnie and I crouched down beside him, and my brows furrowed in concern at the sight of his burnt skin.
