My legs were pulled up to my chest as I sat on the bottom step of a staircase in a house that I didn't recognise. There was something about it that felt familiar. Fleeting memories passed through my mind, but I couldn't hold onto them. They slipped through my fingers like smoke.

Tears stained my cheeks, but I couldn't remember why I had been crying. I think something was missing, something important. I don't know why I was alone in an empty cold house, when I appeared to be less than five years old.

But I wasn't alone, not really. The sound of heels clacking on the wooden floor caught my attention, and a beautiful woman with dark curly hair and deep brown eyes crouched down in front of me. She had a sympathetic look on her face as she gently placed her hand on my shoulder. She looked exactly like Elena, like Katherine.

"It's going to be okay now. Everything's going to be okay." She spoke the words with softness, like she was afraid to raise her voice, before she reached forward and wrapped her arms around my waist. She picked me up off of the floor and held me on her hip. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders with one of my hands clutching a soft white rabbit.

My eyes shot open, staring into the darkness of my bedroom as confusion washed over me. What a strange dream to have. Why would Katherine be looking after me when I was so young? It must have been due to yesterday. We put her in the tomb, and her face got stuck in my subconscious. Even though it did feel like a memory.

I rolled over to check my phone only to see that I had slept in, and had a numerous amount of missed calls and text messages. I groaned and dragged my hands over my face in an attempt to wake myself up further. Before I could even get out of bed, my bedroom door swung open.

I jumped harshly and shot up in bed as Damon walked into my room. "Why weren't you answering your phone?"

"I was sleeping. Where's the fire?" I groaned as I kicked my duvet off of my body and swung my feet over the side of the bed.

"Elena's missing." Damon's words felt like a bucket of cold water was poured over my head. I stood up with my eyes wide, feeling much more awake than I had before.

"What? Where is she? Was she kidnapped?"

"We think she was taken. Her car was still parked at the Lockwoods. Stefan, Bonnie and Jeremy are doing a witchy location spell. So, go get dressed so we can meet them there." Damon said. I didn't waste any time asking more questions as I made a beeline for the bathroom, wanting to get ready as quickly as possible.

Once we picked up Stefan from the high school and got the location from Bonnie, we got into Damon's car and headed down the road. I noticed that Damon was consistently pushing over the speed limit, but I wasn't complaining. It's not like he couldn't compel himself out of a speeding ticket.

"Alaric sure likes his weapons." Damon said as Stefan held up a glass bottle with a grenade-like mechanism. "What is that?"

"It's a vervain bomb or a grenade launcher, something like that." Stefan answered

"Weird." Damon commented

"Hey, how much further is it?" Stefan questioned

"About 80 miles." Damon replied

"Who do you think took her?" Stefan asked

"Someone from Katherin's past. She said she was running from someone. Maybe they got the wrong girl." Damon answered

"It wouldn't be the first time." I added from the back seat.

There was a moment of silence before Stefan turned his attention to Damon again. "Thank you. For helping me."
