The forest flashed past the car window as I sat in the passenger seat of Damon's car. Apparently Elena was already over at the boarding house, and they had invited Alaric Saltzman. For the first few minutes, Damon talked my ear off about everything he had learned about the lockwoods yesterday. But I wasn't completely paying attention.

My mind was running with a thousand different thoughts, and I couldn't help but stare absentmindedly out the window as I let myself be consumed by it.

Damon had tried to kill Caroline, twice, and I didn't know how to feel about it. I'm in a relationship with a man who is quick to anger and even quicker to murder, and I feel like it infringes on my morals. My legs were facing the car door as I stared out the window, but I was dragged out of my thoughts when Damon suddenly pulled over to the side of the road.

"Why have we stopped?" I questioned, turning my head to look over at him.

"You're ignoring me." Damon stated

"No I'm not." I argued back, even though I was ignoring him, but not intentionally.

"Oh, yeah? Then what did I just say?" Damon asked, clearly knowing that he'd caught me in my lie.

"Something about the lockwoods." I answered almost hesitantly.

Damon sighed exasperatedly at my answer. "I was asking you if you were okay, to which you ignored me."

"I'm sorry. I just...I'm distracted." I apologized.

"What's wrong?" Damon asked, his exasperation being replaced with soft concern.

"It's nothing." I shook my head, trying to avoid the topic all together.

Damon reached over and placed his hand on my thigh. "Come on, talk to me."

"There's just a lot going on. Caroline's a vampire, the lockwoods are a supernatural mystery, there is a vampire who keeps impersonating my sister, and my vampire boyfriend tried to kill my friend." I accidentally took off the lid on my thoughts and let it all out.

"I'm your boyfriend, huh?" Damon had a cocky look on his face.

"That's what you took from that?" I exclaimed, partly out of frustration and partly out of amusement.

"Sorry, I'm sorry." Damon chuckled.

"You tried to kill Caroline, Damon." I said, my brows pinched together in worry.

"Yeah...I thought I was doing the right thing. Maybe I was wrong, maybe Caroline will do fine as a vampire. Or maybe she'll lose control and kill half the town." Damon admitted

"You don't know what will happen, not unless you're a psychic. And you can't make the call to kill someone for something that they may or may not do." I said

"You're right. I will only kill people for things they have done." Damon said with a coy smirk.

"Oh, that's so much better. Why did I have to fall for the psychotic vampire?" I muttered with a heavy sigh.

"Because of your daddy issues. Also my dashing good looks help." Damon said with a humorous tone.

"I do not..." I trailed off at the incredulous look in his eyes. "okay, maybe you're right." I do have two dead fathers, I think I qualify.

Damon huffed a laugh before his expression turned more serious. "Look, I know it's a lot, but we'll get through it, right?"

I nodded, tilting my head to look him in his eyes. "Yeah, okay."

"Now, about the lockwoods, how much did you actually hear of what I said?" Damon asked as he started up the car and started driving towards the boardinghouse.
