How Qin Junhong ended up crossing paths with Xia Yang was still unclear, but one thing was certain: their meeting was unlikely to bode well.
Zhu Tong glanced at the invitation in his cousin's hand and suddenly had a thought.
"Could this invitation be related to Xia Yang?"
Cheng Chen looked confused. "Xia Yang? The Xia family has fallen; how could he still get an invitation to a Jiang family event?"
Shao Ming's voice deepened slightly. "Xia Yang is currently living at Jiang Wenhan's house."
Cheng Chen: "..."
His eyes widened in surprise, and he thought to himself: No way! He's living with Jiang Wenhan? What's their relationship?
Zhu Tong thought: Cousin, you really don't understand the charm of a heartthrob protagonist.
He succinctly explained, "They were neighbors for a few years when they were kids, and Jiang Wenhan likes him."
Cheng Chen: "..."
His cousin looked skeptical, his internal questions multiplying. "Didn't you say you didn't know Jiang Wenhan? How do you know so much?"
Zhu Tong: "..."
He remained unfazed and replied, "I specifically looked it up last night."
Cheng Chen was half-convinced, shifting his gaze between the two of them for a while. The chaotic thoughts in his mind finally coalesced into four words: "Your circle is chaotic."
He had thought his own social circle was complicated, but this was a whole new level of disorder.
Zhu Tong didn't bother to refute him.
Because it truly was chaotic. Right now, it was just Jiang Wenhan; who knew how many suitors would emerge when Xia Yang grew up? The scene would be a veritable battlefield, with romantic entanglements igniting all around.
However, what did it mean for Xia Yang to send them an invitation now?
Was he asking Jiang Wenhan to seek "justice" on his behalf?
It probably meant more than that.
Zhu Tong thought for a moment and asked Cheng Chen, "Cousin, if the Jiang family sent the invitation but we ultimately decide not to attend, what would happen?"
Would it make them seem disrespectful to the Jiang family?
"Nothing major would happen," Cheng Chen shrugged. "The Jiang couple isn't stingy. Even if some gossip arises, Uncle Liu is seasoned enough to handle it."
"..."
So, there would be some repercussions, albeit minor.
Generally speaking, receiving an invitation and attending an event is typically a trivial matter; it's unnecessary to decline and risk offending the host over a minor inconvenience.
No one knew, and that was a relief. If word got out, there would undoubtedly be those who would exploit the situation to sow discord.
It was unlikely they would offend the Jiang family outright, but their impression would certainly suffer.
Thus, the person who sent the invitation likely assumed they would attend without question.
But what would happen once they were there?
If the invitation was indeed from Xia Yang, what was his aim? Or rather, what were his and Qin Junhong's intentions?
While pondering this, Zhu Xian's light, slow footsteps echoed from the staircase. She seemed still half-asleep, yawning into her hand as she descended.
