A few days after the sports festival, an announcement rang through the halls—another test was coming up, but this time it wouldn’t be the usual test. Instead, a mini-test had been arranged, with a twist that had every class buzzing because it was the question shuffle exam. Each class would not only prepare their own questions but also choose which questions to give to the other classes. The goal? To throw the other classes off their game with difficult questions, while navigating the challenge of answering questions of unknown difficulty.
As the announcement ended, our classroom filled with murmurs and whispers. I could feel the tension rise among my classmates, each of us realizing that this test would require not only academic preparation but also strategy.
Kushida, who had recently improved in spirit, looked over at me with a confident smile. Thanks to my support, she seemed to be moving past her previous struggles, and now, instead of aligning with Ryuen to betray us like in original anime, she was fully committed to helping Class D succeed.
The class quickly organized itself into study groups to tackle the challenge. Each group wanted to cover different areas of study, ensuring we’d be ready for anything. Just like in the past, Ayanokoji quietly organized his own study group. But this time, Haruka had a little surprise.
One day after school, I was packing my books when Haruka approached me with her usual playful smile. “Hey! You’re not thinking of studying all alone, are you?” she teased.
“Me? Nah, I’ve got my own plans,” I replied, grinning back.
“Why not join our group?” she asked, nudging me slightly. “It’ll be fun, and you might actually learn a thing or two from us geniuses.” She chuckled, clearly joking.
“Oh, so you’re geniuses now, huh?”
Haruka laughed. “Well, we’re good enough for Ayanokoji to recruit us, aren’t we? Plus, he’s got Yukimura, Akito, and me. I even convinced him to let Sakura join, so I thought… why not you too? It’ll be fun!”
I raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised. “Sakura and me, huh? Are you sure Ayanokoji’s okay with this?”
At that moment, Ayanokoji, who was standing nearby, looked over with a nod. “The more, the better. Besides, we can cover more topics with six of us.”
“Alright, you’ve convinced me. I’m in!” I said, and Haruka beamed in response.
With our group now finalized—Ayanokoji, Yukimura, Akito, Haruka, Sakura, and me—we quickly found a spot in the library to study. It was quiet, and most of the other groups had already gathered their own spaces.
As we settled in, Haruka playfully nudged me. “So, what are you going to focus on first?”
“Math, I guess,” I replied. “But I think I could use some help with science too.”
“Don’t worry, we’ve got Yukimura for that,” she said, grinning.
Yukimura, who was flipping through his own notes, glanced up. “I’ll help with science, but only if you don’t distract me with your conversations.”
“Who, me?” I said, feigning innocence. “I’d never!”
Akito chuckled, setting down his own book. “This is going to be… interesting.”
We began our study session with Ayanokoji dividing up the subjects so that we could cover as much ground as possible. Each of us focused on areas we were confident in, while Yukimura led us through the more difficult parts. Over time, our discussions became easier, and we even found ourselves joking around.
Haruka’s voice broke the focus as she turned to Sakura. “Sakura, how’s everything going on your end?”
Sakura, who was shyly thumbing through her book, smiled slightly. “I think I’m getting the hang of it, thanks to everyone here.”
I chimed in, “See? Study groups really are magic!”
She blushed and nodded. “Yeah… I’m glad to be here with all of you.”
As the evening wore on, Haruka and I kept the atmosphere light with our playful teasing. At one point, I nudged Haruka. “So, when are you going to start teaching us some real secrets to this test?”
“Oh, you want the secrets?” she laughed, giving a mischievous grin. “Maybe after we ace it, I’ll share.”
Our conversations helped everyone relax, and I could feel our bonds strengthening. We spent a lot of time not only studying but also sharing laughs and getting to know each other better. Yukimura’s stoic approach balanced out Haruka’s playful attitude, while Ayanokoji quietly observed, jumping in only when we needed a solid piece of advice.
At the end of our study session, I felt a deep sense of pride and comfort, knowing we were in this together. Haruka glanced around, her usual teasing replaced by a warm smile. “This group… we’re going to make it, aren’t we?”
I nodded. “We’ll tackle this mini-test and come out stronger.”
After saying our goodbyes, I headed back to my room. Lying in bed that night, I thought about the day, feeling genuinely grateful for the dedication and teamwork everyone had shown. With a smile on my face, I drifted off, ready to tackle the upcoming test with my friends.
