Our final year had begun, and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and determination. We were no longer just another class; we were Class A, a title that filled our classmates with pride and a sense of accomplishment. Seeing everyone return to their usual routines, but with an extra spark in their eyes, made me realize just how far we had come.
Being the student council president had its perks. I noticed how it subtly benefitted our class as I helped oversee various student activities and gained insights into school events. The power and influence that came with my position weren’t something I took lightly. I knew that every decision I made could impact not only our class but the entire school.
Today, I had an important task—one I’d seen my brother undertake during my own first day here. It was my turn to give a welcome speech to the new first-year students. As I walked onto the stage, memories of my own arrival flashed through my mind. My brother’s speech had inspired me back then, and now, I hoped my words would do the same for these new students.
Standing in front of the assembled students, I took a deep breath before beginning. “Welcome to Advanced Nurturing High School. I am the Student Council President, Suzune Horikita,” I started, my voice steady and confident. “Three years from now, each of you will have an incredible journey, one that will challenge you in ways you never thought possible.”
The audience was silent, their attention focused on my words. “You’ll face obstacles, setbacks, and perhaps moments of self-doubt. But remember, every challenge is an opportunity. Don’t be afraid to push beyond your limits, to trust in yourself, and to lean on those around you.”
I scanned the room, hoping to meet the eyes of each student. “Success here isn’t just about grades or rankings. It’s about growth. The friendships you form, the lessons you learn, and the experiences you gain—those are the things that will truly define your time here.”
After a brief pause, I concluded, “I look forward to seeing how each of you will rise to the occasion. Welcome to your new high school life.”
As I stepped off the stage, I was met with applause. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. My brother’s influence had guided me, and now, maybe I could be that source of inspiration for others.
Later, I met with my usual study group—Ayanokoji, Haruka, Sakura, Akito, and Yukimura. We had gathered in one of the study rooms, and Yukimura had taken it upon himself to review some of the material we’d be covering this term. As he launched into a detailed explanation of the concepts, I noticed something interesting out of the corner of my eye.
Haruka and Akito were sitting close to each other and their hands brush against each other accidentally. They both blushed slightly, though they quickly turned back to their notes, pretending nothing had happened. It was subtle, and no one else seemed to notice since everyone were focused on Yukimura's lecture. But I could see the way their faces lit up, a quiet affection lingering in their glances.
As the study session wrapped up, I decided to find a moment alone with Haruka. I approached her as she was talking to Sakura. Leaning in, I whispered, “Haruka, is there something you’d like to share with me about Akito?”
She flushed instantly, glancing away nervously. “Wh-what do you mean, Horikita?” she stammered.
I raised an eyebrow, suppressing a smile. “I think you know what I mean. It’s alright if you have feelings for him, you know.”
Haruka’s blush deepened, and she quickly shook her head. “N-no, it’s nothing like that!” she insisted, though her cheeks betrayed her. With a hasty goodbye, she grabbed Sakura’s hand and hurried off, leaving me smiling to myself.
Later, I found Akito alone in the hallway. I decided to approach him as well. “Akito,” I began, keeping my tone casual, “do you have a moment?”
He looked up, slightly startled. “Sure, what’s up?”
I chose my words carefully, observing his reaction. “I couldn’t help but notice that you seem to have a certain… fondness for Haruka.”
Akito’s face turned a slight shade of pink, and he looked away, hesitating. “I… well… I guess there’s no point in hiding it,” he admitted softly. “I do care about her. I love her a lot, actually. I’ve just… never had the courage to say it.”
I gave him a reassuring nod. “You should consider telling her. You might be surprised by her reaction.”
He chuckled, though there was still a nervousness in his eyes. “Maybe… I mean, I want to propose her before our highschool ends, but what if she doesn’t feel the same way? Or what if I ruin our friendship?”
“From what I’ve seen,” I replied, “I think you have a better chance than you think. And our time here won’t last forever. If you’re serious about her, then maybe it’s worth the risk.”
He took a deep breath, nodding slowly. “You’re right. I’ll think about it. Thanks, Horikita.”
As he walked away, I sighed, watching him go. I knew Akito was hesitant, but I had a feeling he would find the courage eventually. And if he didn’t, well, maybe I’d have to give him a little push.
With that, I turned and made my way down the hallway, reflecting on the connections and challenges that lay ahead in our final year. We had come a long way, and I was proud of everyone in Class A. This was only the beginning, and I was ready to face whatever came next.
