The days following the confrontation with Ryuen were tense but quieter. My brother, Manabu, stepped down from his role as the Student Council President, I knew this was coming . The new president, Nagumo, from Year 2, took over, bringing a different, more aggressive leadership style. I knew this change was inevitable, and it weighed on my mind.

Rumors swirled that Ryuen intended to leave school, taking responsibility for what had happened despite us not reporting it. On Christmas Eve, Ayanokoji and I decided to confront him one last time. We found him in an empty classroom, staring out the window with a stoic expression.

“You’re really planning to leave?” I asked, breaking the silence.

Ryuen smirked but didn’t turn around. “Surprised you care. I thought you’d be glad to see me gone.”

Ayanokoji’s calm voice interjected, “Leaving isn’t the solution. We didn't reported you. You have the chance to start over.”

Ryuen’s smirk faltered, replaced by a thoughtful frown. “Why didn’t you two report it?”

“Because we don’t need to ruin anyone's life to prove our strength,” I said with a genuine smile. “Forget the past and move forward.”

Ryuen’s eyes met mine for a moment, searching for any hint of deception. Finally, he nodded slowly. “Fine. I’ll stay, but don’t think this is over.”

Ayanokoji’s lips curled into the faintest smile as Ryuen walked past us, leaving the room. I glanced at Ayanokoji and he gave a subtle nod.

The next day, Ayanokoji, Kushida, and I sat at a café, the soft hum of conversation surrounding us. We were discussing various school matters when Ayanokoji suddenly brought up, “Your brother asked you to join the student council, didn’t he?”

I blinked, caught off-guard. “Yeah, he did. But I’m not sure if it’s the right move for me.”

Kushida leaned forward with a smile. “It could really benefit you, you know? You’d gain influence and insights that could help our class.”

Ayanokoji added, “And it would keep Nagumo from gaining even more power unopposed. Think about it.”

I sighed, the idea weighing heavily on me. “Maybe you’re right. I’ll think about it.”

The three of us exchanged looks before standing up to leave. As we walked out into the crisp air, I felt a new sense of determination forming within me.

And with that, the day ended on a note of possibilities.
