Becoming the student council president was a heavier responsibility than I’d initially imagined. My days filled quickly with paperwork, meetings, and planning, often stretching late into the evening. I wonder how my brother or nagumo handled all of this. Thankfully, Kushida and Nanase, my loyal supporters, eased the workload significantly. They offered to stay behind, helping me sort documents or organize files, while Ichinose, my vice president, expertly guided me through new procedures, teaching me to manage time efficiently.

After exams wrapped up, we all felt we’d earned a break. I suggested, “How about we take a day off and go to the mall? We could use a change of pace.” Kushida and Nanase eagerly agreed, both as eager for the escape as I was. Unfortunately, Ichinose had some other plans for the day, so it was just the three of us.

Sunday arrived, and the bustling mall atmosphere felt refreshing, a welcome distraction from the usual academic grind. We wandered from store to store, enjoying the rare sense of freedom. Just as we were browsing a shop, we happened to cross paths with Chabashira-sensei and Hoshinomiya-sensei. They greeted us with a mix of pride and humor.

“Horikita, already hard at work as the new student council president, hmm?” Chabashira-sensei teased, a hint of pride in her eyes.

Hoshinomiya-sensei joined in, laughing. “Yes! You’re responsible for a lot now, but don’t let it get to your head.”

I gave a respectful nod. “Thank you, both of you. I’ll do my best to handle it responsibly.” After a few more words of advice and congratulations, we said our goodbyes and moved on.

Later, we decided to stop by a café for coffee and cake, settling into the cozy atmosphere. To my surprise, Sakayanagi was already there with her classmate Masumi Kamuro. She caught my eye, smiled, and waved us over.

“Horikita,” she greeted, a playful glint in her eye, “I heard you’ve taken up the mantle of student council president. Quite the weight, isn’t it?”

“Thank you, Sakayanagi. But I think I’m managing just fine,” I replied with a smile. We shared a lighthearted laugh, teasing each other about the new responsibilities and adjustments. After finishing our coffee, we bid farewell, and I felt a bit lighter, the company and relaxed conversation helping me unwind.

As we continued strolling through the mall, Nanase asked me and Kushida “Btw where’s Ichinose-senpai? It’s unusual she didn’t join us today.”

Almost as if on cue, we spotted her nearby, but she wasn’t alone. Beside her was Ayanokoji, looking as calm and collected as ever, while Ichinose appeared slightly flustered at our unexpected encounter.

“Ah, Horikita, Kushida, Nanase… hi!” Ichinose stammered, her cheeks pink. Ayanokoji, on the other hand, offered a nod, unfazed.

I raised an eyebrow, quickly piecing together the situation. “Ichinose… were you on a date with Ayanokoji?”

Kushida joined in, grinning. “Is that why you couldn’t come with us?”

Ichinose’s blush deepened, but she managed to stammer, “N-No! It’s not like that… we were just… hanging out…”

“Right,” I teased, smirking, “just hanging out with Ayanokoji?”

Ayanokoji remained as expressionless as ever, though he shot Ichinose a subtle glance. “It was… a good day,” he said simply.

I leaned in close, whispering to Ichinose as we walked, “So, anything romantic happen? A hand-holding moment, perhaps?”

Ichinose’s blush somehow grew even deeper, and she shook her head quickly. “No, no! He didn’t even pick up on the hints I tried to give… but it was still nice just spending time with him.”

I nodded, genuinely happy for her. “Sounds like progress. Little by little.”

With that, Ayanokoji and Ichinose joined us for the rest of our outing. We laughed and enjoyed our time together, a perfect ending to the day. Later, after saying our goodbyes, I returned to my dorm feeling a sense of satisfaction. That night, as I lay in bed, I couldn’t help but think of the progress Ichinose and Ayanokoji had made. A warm feeling of pride and contentment settled over me as I drifted to sleep.
