One week had passed since the school trip, and life was back to its usual routine-except for the growing pressure of the next exam. It was on an otherwise normal afternoon that I was summoned to the student council room. Nagumo wanted to see both Ichinose and me. As I entered, Ichinose stood Infront of Nagumo, who wore a focused expression. And I also stood beside Ichinose.

"I'm graduating soon," Nagumo began, his tone steady. "I need to choose the next student council president and you two are the top candidates. The position is important, and I can't just hand it over."

I immediately spoke up, "I don't think I'm the right person for the job. I'd rather focus on my studies than take on that responsibility." Beside me, Ichinose also hesitated. "I feel the same, Nagumo-senpai," she added softly, her gentle determination evident.

Nagumo's eyes narrowed slightly. "You both refuse? Then I'll leave the decision to the next exam results. The one who performs better will lead."

Ichinose and I exchanged a glance, reluctant but understanding. As we left the room, I caught up with Ichinose. "You'd be perfect for the role, Ichinose," I urged. "The council needs someone with your insight and care and everyone even admire s you."

She shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. "No, Horikita. It has to be fair, and if I get the position, I want it to be because I earned it." Her gentle but firm words left me with a sigh.

Later, I went to the gym to clear my head. I was mid-workout when I noticed Kiruin and Asahina walk in. Spotting me, they joined on the treadmills beside mine. Kiruin noticed the tension I carried. "What's on your mind?" she asked as we jogged.

I hesitated, then explained the situation. Asahina gave me an encouraging look. "It's not a decision to take lightly, but if this is an opportunity for you, give it your best," she advised. Kiruin nodded in agreement. "Leadership is more than just academics, Horikita. Consider what you can bring to the council."

After our talk, I felt slightly better, though my thoughts remained tangled.

Later, I was studying with my friends-Ayanokoji, Haruka, Sakura, Akito, and Yukimura-in the library. After a while, I brought up the topic, almost casually. "Nagumo suggested someone between me and Ichinose should become the next student council president."

Haruka's eyes sparkled. "That's amazing, Horikita! You'd be perfect for it." Sakura chimed in with a nod, "It's a big responsibility, but we know you're capable."

"Even your brother, Manabu, would be proud," Ayanokoji said, his tone as calm as ever.

I shook my head. "But Ichinose is a way better option. Her kindness and empathy would be a huge asset and also everyone admires her."

"But you're just as capable, Horikita," Yukimura insisted. "In fact, you'd bring a sense of discipline that's needed."

As their words sank in, I felt an unexpected warmth. They all believed in me.

That night, I lay in bed, thoughts swirling in my mind. The idea of following my brother's footsteps, of bringing a new direction to the council... Could I really handle it? My resolve hardened slightly as I drifted off to sleep, knowing I'd give my best in the upcoming exam, not just for myself, but for everyone who believed in me.
