Nanase had become an ally, but soon after, she parted ways with us to follow her own path. Ayanokoji and I pressed on, encountering a task that tested our knowledge of anime. To my surprise—and delight—I defeated Ayanokoji for the first time. As he handed in his blank answer sheet because he had no knowledge on anims, I smirked.

“Looks like the genius has a weak spot,” I teased, nudging his arm.

He raised an eyebrow. “I never claimed to be an expert on anime.”

“Clearly,” I laughed, enjoying the rare victory.

A few hours later, we ran into Ichika. She asked Ayanokoji to speak privately, and I hung back, listening closely without their notice. Ichika’s voice was earnest as she revealed, “I’m from the White Room. Tsukishiro’s plans are meant to target you, but I won’t be part of it. Because I admire your strength too much and I want to help you.”

I silently thanked Ichika for her unexpected help, understanding her from my readings of the light novel. As the conversation ended, Ayanokoji met my gaze but didn’t press further, so we continued our journey.

Soon, we bumped into Ibuki, who was in the middle of checking her points. I couldn’t resist a grin. “Looks like I’m ahead of you,” I said, flashing my score.

Ibuki’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t get cocky, it’s not over yet,” she snapped, but the irritated glint in her eyes gave me a sense of satisfaction.

The next day brought surprising news: Koenji had taken the top spot, accumulating points faster than anyone. Word spread quickly that some of Nagumo’s subordinates had tried to sabotage him, blocking his path. But in typical Koenji fashion, his unparalleled stamina left them gasping for air while he remained unfazed. I couldn’t help but laugh at their failed attempt. Thanks, Koenji, I thought, knowing his success was a boon for Class 2-C.

Finally, it was time for us to split up and handle tasks separately. I looked at Ayanokoji, offering a nod. “If you need help, just call.”

He nodded back, his expression unreadable. “Same goes for you.”

With that, we went our separate ways, each ready to face the challenges that awaited us.
