Winter vacation brought a welcome break from the tension. I spent the day with Kei, Haruka, Matsushita, Sato, and Shinohara. We laughed and chatted, enjoying the carefree moments at a cafe.
At one point, Haruka leaned in with a mischievous grin. “Hey, Shinohara, you and Ike are spending a lot of time together these days. Are you both dating or what?”
Shinohara’s face turned a bit pink and she waved her hands. “W-What? No, of course not!”
I couldn’t help but join in, smirking. “Come on, Shinohara, your reaction says it all!”
Shinohara blushed even more as we burst into laughter. The teasing brought a lightheartedness that made us forget the trials we’d been through.

Later, as we said our goodbyes, I walked with Matsushita down a quieter path. Our conversation was interrupted when we spotted Ayanokoji and Acting Chairman Tsukishiro in a narrow alley. Instinctively, Matsushita and I hid, trying to catch any part of their conversation, but it ended quickly as Tsukishiro walked away, his face neutral yet calculating.
Ayanokoji noticed us as he approached, and Matsushita stepped forward. “What was that about, Ayanokoji-kun? Talking to Tsukishiro during winter break?”
I added, playing along, “Yeah, what’s going on? Spill it.”
Ayanokoji’s expression was as unreadable as ever. “It’s nothing to be concerned about,” he said plainly.
Matsushita looked unconvinced but let it slide. “Fine, but you’re acting mysterious as usual.”
I nodded, pretending to be in the dark, even though I knew the truth. In the light novel, Tsukishiro’s actions meant White Room students were coming next year to expel Ayanokoji. My thoughts swirled, preparing for the trials ahead.
As we parted ways, Matsushita gave a small wave. “See you when school starts again.”
“See you,” I replied, watching Ayanokoji walk away, a sense of anticipation building for what awaited us in our second year.
