**Kaiser.**
"So how was that date of yours last night?"
I stood at the lockers, anytime I heard Stetson's voice, I would get this sudden headache.
"It wasn't a date, it was me hanging out with the new kid." I shrugged grabbing my books as Stetson smirked.
"Yeah, right, and when I take Rocky anywhere to eat, we eat food." He rolled his eyes as I stared at him.
"I'm not rushing into things like how you and Rocky did, Ziggy is..."
"Fragile? Quiet? Different compared to the other humans in this school?" Dorian arched a brow as he shut his own locker now.
I frowned at him.
"He's definitely fragile, but it makes me want to watch out for him even more." I rubbed the side of my neck.
"Rocky and the twins had no idea about us, and when they did, Rocky practically threw himself at you." My eyes fell on Stetson now.
"I just don't know how okay Ziggy would be, mentally, if he found out our secret." I said with a soft sigh.
"Plus, he has a girlfriend, and I don't even know if she's aware she's wrapped up with our kind." I added.
"Whoa, hold on, I thought we were the only ones?" Dorian questioned as Stetson smacked the other.
"You dumb ass, of course there is more of us, but it's frustrating that they are in the same area. How many were there?" Stetson questioned.
I frowned at the two.
"A boy and girl, the boy seemed like he was ready to get into a fight just from me standing up." I crossed my arms.
Stetson rolled his eyes.
"Great, so more trouble makers?"
"Stetson, we are trouble makers." Dorian stared at him.
Stetson blinked.
"Oh yeah-"
"But not the kind who pose as threats." I frowned.
"We swore to leave that life behind us, I just don't want Ziggy to get wrapped up in it, especially when we have our own issues here at school." I glared softly in the direction of five students.
They weren't paying any attention to us, and that was a first.
But my eyes were locked on the pale blond with dark blue eyes.
Devi Silva.
One of the biggest threats in this school, not to mention he has already came after Dorian's little interest.
"If you don't want him to get wrapped in our mess, just keep him at arms length until you're ready." Dorian shrugged.
Dorian looked around.
"The kid doesn't seem like the type to run his mouth, and I get the feeling that if he even tried to say something, no one would believe him. He's skittish." He commented.
"Only because his uncle beats the shit out of him."
The three of us turned to Rocky, his eyes were almost black which amused me a little.
"Babe, fix your eyes." Stetson smirked softly at the black haired teen who blinked before glaring softly, he rubbed them as they turned back to baby blue.
"Hold on, did you say his uncle beats him?" Dorian made a face as Rocky frowned deeply.
"That's the gist of it, Zigzag isn't very open about himself yet and he likes to brush it off. Like yesterday, I wanted to confront his lame ass cousin and friends, but Ziggy stopped me." Rocky rubbed his neck frowning.
"I don't like it, but I also don't trust the one who got out of the car with him." He commented.
Stetson pulled the other into him as his arms wrapped around the other, Rocky glared before sighing as he relaxed.
"What happened yesterday?" I found myself questioning.
Rocky blinked before his brow arched.
"Since when do you take interest in anyone?" He asked me.
Both Dorian and Stetson chuckled in response to that.
"He's got a point Kaiser, up until now, you've never wanted to be interested in another person." Stetson pointed out.
My eye twitched.
"Back to my question, what happened yesterday?" I repeated, slightly annoyed now.
Rocky stared before frowning.
"Well we all saw his face and how bruised it was, but the guy who got out of the car with him had this aura that was keeping Ziggy at bay, like he has perfect control of the other." He said.
"Wait, I thought you said he had a girlfriend?" Dorian made a face looking at me as I frowned at him.
"He does, did you happen to get a name?" I asked looking at Rocky who shook his head.
"No, but I do know Zigzag was shaken up, he doesn't want us wrapped up in his problems.. but, that's just not who I am unfortunately." He said as the bell rang.
"It's not, but I do want you to be careful, even if you piss me off." Stetson sighed pulling Rocky down the hall with him.
--------
I walked into homeroom and felt this relief seeing that Ziggy was already in his desk, there was no life in his eyes but then again, from the last four days of knowing him.
I've never seen life in his eyes.
"Good morning, Ziggy." I greeted the black haired teen who looked up at me, he managed a soft smile, even if it seemed forced.
"G-Good morning, Kaiser..." He looked down at his desk with this troubled look as I sat next to the other, my eyes only on him.
"Are you alright?" I asked him.
Ziggy nodded slowly before his eyes fell back on me.
"I.. I just wanted to say thank you for yesterday, I had fun." He smiled softly at me.
I blinked before smiling back now.
"We can do it a lot more if you'd like, I usually have no plans after school unless Stetson and the others want to hang out, but other than that? I'm usually at home reading." I told him.
"You like to read?" Ziggy questioned looking at me.
I smiled softly.
"I love to read, it puts me at peace and it's embarrassing to say, but sometimes I like to pretend I'm in the book myself." I told him.
Ziggy blinked a few times, before he gave me an actual genuine laugh, it was soft and quiet, but it was there.
"That is kind of embarrassing, but.. I'm sure it would be nice to escape into a book." He said.
I leaned in with a grin.
"Even one that leads to nothing but blood and gore?" I asked.
I saw the color draining from the others face as Ziggy sat there.
"I take it back, that wouldn't be nice at all." He told me.
It was my turn to laugh quietly, which seemed to bring that color back to Ziggy's pale cheeks.
"You're messing with me." I heard him say as I smiled softly.
"Do you want me to stop?" I questioned.
His brows knitted as his face grew redder.
"N-Not really, I'm just not used to being teased in the way you're doing." He told me.
I watched him before smiling softly.
"I'd like to be a lot of your firsts, if you'd allow me." I said now, not even considering how that sounded when it came out.
Because oh man..
His face was beet red.
I left it at that so his mind could wander.
I wanted to see the expressions his emotions would let him show.
"Ziggy." I called his name as he looked back at me now.
"Yes?"
"Are you still coming to the lake house after school today?" I asked him.
Ziggy stared before he looked down at his lap.
"Oh.. mhm, my uncle was angry about it but my aunt persuaded him to let me go this weekend.." He told me.
I felt this slight irritation sitting there.
What had Ziggy done in that family for them to treat him like this?
I knew it was too soon.
But I really wanted to know about his past.
When I asked about his parents..
"They died."
It made my brows furrow, because he sounded so sad when he said it.
Like that was the first time, he's ever had the chance to tell someone else.
When the bell rang for the next class period, my eyes fell to the front of the class.
Mr.Mitchell had told Ziggy he needed to talk to him about something.
I could only hope it was good news.
Leaving out of the classroom first, I headed to second period.
--------
"Oh wow, so the kid is actually coming with us today after school?" Jackie questioned sitting with us at the lunch table.
I nodded.
"He said he was, and I may have said something pretty misleading that turned Ziggy into a tomato." I sighed.
"What did you say?" Kyrie arched a brow at me.
"Oh nothing much, just that I wanted to be a lot of his firsts." I face palmed.
"Damn you smooth ass talker, I bet that really got a reaction out of him." Stetson laughed as I glared.
"It wasn't meant to come out that way-"
"Oh, so you don't want to be his first for anything?" Stetson smirked at me.
My eye twitched.
"I'm not having this talk with you over my salad, but yes." I said taking a bite of my food as Stetson grinned.
"Oh that reminds me, who did you talk to on the phone the other day?" I looked at Kyrie who blinked.
"I talk to a lot of people, Kaiser, please elaborate-"
"The day Ziggy dropped his phone and you picked it up." I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"We didn't exchange names, but he had quite the temper when he was talking to Ziggy before he scared him. If I remember correctly, his exact words were. You really know how to piss me off, do you think just because you go to another school, we can't find you. At first, I thought he was some insanely controlling ex boyfriend, but then he tossed the faggot word in and that thought went right out the window." Kyrie said with a frown.
I sat there before letting out a heavy sigh.
"I really want to kick this guy's ass, I don't want to bring him up around Ziggy, because he gets scared. But.. I just want to size him up and see who he is to be treating another person this bad." I said now.
"Oh, like how I had to size up that cousin of his." Stetson commented and for once, he sounded serious.
"Right, that was when Ziggy's uncle took him home." I frowned while sitting there.
"I just wonder, if he had left with one of us instead.. would he have been hurt?" I questioned out loud, frowning with my eyes locked on the table.
No matter how hard I tried to imagine a different outcome, it always ended up with him getting hurt in the end.
-------
When the final bell rang for class to be let out.
I felt this slight excitement knowing, Ziggy would be with us this weekend and not at that house.
I wasn't sure how the talk with his uncle went either.
He never brought it up in class, but he seemed out of it afterwards.
"Kaiser..?"
I turned to the one who had been on my mind.
Ziggy stood there, looking nervous as he held his bag.
"You said you wanted me to ride with you there, right?" He asked.
I blinked and was internally yelling at myself.
I smiled softly at the other.
"I did, are you ready to go?" I questioned, my head tilting at the smaller teen whose brows knitted before looking away, obviously feeling shy.
"Mhm." He agreed as I smiled softly walking next to the other.
"I should warn you now, the guys tend to be a bit much when we spend the weekend together." I told him as I opened the passenger door for the other.
Ziggy blinked.
"Oh? I mean.. that's okay." He said as I smiled before walking over to the driver side.
My eyes were locked on the road as Ziggy looked out the window, I knew reading his mind was possible, but he was someone whose privacy I didn't want to invade, unless it was necessary.
Like when he lies and thinks he's getting away with it.
"Ziggy." I called his name as he stopped spacing and looked at me.
"Hm?"
I looked to him while driving down the road.
"Can I ask you another personal question?" I asked him.
Ziggy's brows knitted.
"It depends on what it is."
"About the kids from your other school-"
"No." Ziggy cut me off as my eyes slightly widened at the others flushed face, he looked scared sitting there and I hated myself for even saying anything.
"Alright, change of subject then, how about your favorite snack?" I looked back at the road, hoping the awkward atmosphere would vanish fast.
Ziggy stared before looking ahead blankly.
"I don't think I have one." He said and I internally kicked myself.
Here I am, trying to fix the first mistake and now I'm just making it worse.
"But."
I blinked looking at Ziggy.
"As a kid, my favorite snack was bananas." He told me.
My eyes slightly widened.
"Bananas..?" I repeated.
Ziggy looked to me, before smiling softly.
"Mhm, anytime my mom took me to the store, I always wanted a banana.. I think, that might be my favorite flavor of sweet foods." He said now.
I stared, before slowly sucking in some air.
Yeah.
It was going to be REAL hard trying to restrain myself around this kid.
Especially this weekend.
Don't screw this up, Kaiser.
