**Jayce.**
I don't remember much about my childhood.
There was nothing ever really good about it, I guess.
My parents were always fighting about something.
And it was usually about either money or my dad cheating on my mom.
But because she didn't want to raise twins on her own.
The two stayed married.
No longer in love, just tolerating each other.
But, despite the living arrangement.
He was always there, in my corner, keeping me safe and out of danger.
Our parents were not the abusive type.
They never raised their hand against us, unless it was what we deserved.
Other than that.
My brother always kept me at arms reach, because he knew I needed him.
And now..
He needs me.
The younger brother watching over the older one.
Nothing could change what happened.
I just wish.
Joshua would have came to me or anyone else, before he lost his life.
To that..
Monster.
"Jayce."
My eyes fell to Dorian who walked into the bedroom.
Joshua was still asleep from whatever trance this put his body in.
My fingers were laced with my brothers as I frowned at the other.
Dorian walked over to me, kneeling down.
"You don't look well." He told me, bringing his hand to my face as I frowned softly.
"I'm fine." I looked at Joshua who laid there, his eyes closed.
"You haven't eaten in three days, Jayce, you need-"
"What I need is for my brother to wake up." I looked at Dorian.
"Until his eyes are open, I refuse to eat or sleep, I don't want him to wake up alone." I told him.
Dorian frowned at me.
"Do you think Joshua would want you to torture yourself like this? You need fresh air." He told me.
"I'm not leaving Joshua." I looked away.
"Jayce-"
"I SAID I'M NOT LEAVING HIM ALONE!" I yelled, glaring with tears in my eyes as I looked at Dorian.
There was no expression on the others face, he just sighed.
"I know you're hurting-"
"Do you?" I asked as Dorian's brows furrowed.
"Yes, because like you? I also had a brother who was attacked, but guess what? He wasn't given an option to turn into a vampire, he was killed for the hell of it." Dorian glared softly at me as my eyes widened.
"Dor-"
"I get you're hurting Jayce, truly I do, but shutting your friends out? Shutting me out? It's not going to help anything, you are still a human who needs things to survive. Joshua will wake up, sure he's being stubborn about it, but he'll still be here when you get back. I know that you know that your brother would not want you to suffer like this, so get off your ass, take a shower and let's go eat somewhere." Dorian told me.
My face was flushed but I slowly stood to my feet.
I let out a startled gasp from how fast Dorian took my hand and pulled me into him, embracing me as his face nuzzled my neck.
"Don't become this version of yourself that you'll hate, no matter the outcome of anything? I'll always be here and Joshua will always be your brother, so please, stop hating yourself for this. No one knew he would go after Devi on his own, but he did and we're going to face this together, not alone. You are not alone." Dorian pulled back and looked at me.
My eyes on him as the tears swelled in my eyes.
"Dorian." I cried as he pulled me back into an embrace.
"Let's go shower." He lifted me off my feet.
I looked at Dorian as he held me, turning the shower on as the water began to get hot.
[I Need To Know- Kris Allen Plays.]
"Get undressed." Dorian told me, removing his shirt and jeans.
I watched the other before hesitatingly doing the exact same.
Before the two of us were in the shower.
His lips were on mine as he pushed me against the shower wall, the steam was getting to me as his lips went to my neck, chest and down.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as my head leaned back.
Panting as Dorian came back up, his lips taking mine as my arms reached around, embracing the other as he kissed my neck.
"Jayce, will you let me mark you?" Dorian asked me.
I looked at him with knitted brows.
"But I'm human-"
"And?" Dorian smirked softly.
"You don't have to be a vampire for me to mark you, I want to mark you as a human so if you ever decide you want to be a vampire, you'll still be mine." He told me.
My face grew warm but I nodded.
Dorian kissed my neck before looking at my shoulder.
"Bite me if it hurts too much." He told me.
"B-Bite you?" I repeated.
Dorian smiled softly.
"It'll be like you marking me in a sense." He said before kissing my shoulder, it made me shiver before crying out when his fangs pierced my skin.
It felt like I was being stabbed then set on fire.
I looked at his upper arm and without thinking.
I bit into the others arm, knowing I wouldn't do real damage given the fact, I was only human.
But focusing on this kept me from thinking about the pain.
-----------
"What are you in the mood to eat?" Dorian questioned, walking down the street with me.
My shoulder was aching, but it was official.
We were marked as one.
"I'm fine with anything.." I replied looking around.
Dorian's eyes were on me as he thought about a suggestion.
"How about that new steak house?" He suggested.
I frowned at him.
"Isn't that place expensive..?" I questioned.
Dorian smiled softly.
"Whether it is or not, I'm the one paying, and grilled meat sounds good." He told me.
I looked at him then ahead.
"Okay.. sure, that sounds fine." I agreed as we walked down the street.
Walking in, I knew this would be a place I could never come to on my own.
It screamed that it was meant for rich people.
There was fancy lighting and dark maroon table cloth on each of the tables.
It wasn't meant for a place like me.
But Dorian wanted to come here.
And I didn't want to ruin the mood.
Dorian sat across from me as I dared to look at the menu.
I knew everything had to be...
CHEAP?
My eyes were wide at the prices.
Ten dollars for steak, eight for shrimp and your choice of meat?
"You look surprised." Dorian pointed out with an amused grin on his face.
I looked at him wide eyed.
"I am, I thought everything here would be over priced.." I looked around.
"It's what they want you to think, given the interior design and accessories." Dorian grinned, placing his hand in the palm of his hand as he looked at me.
"Lou's is a surprise to a lot of people, I came here with Kyrie and Jackie on a whim the other day, just to see if it would be worth bringing you to, but based on your reaction? It's pretty worth it." He smiled softly.
I looked at him confused.
"You.. wanted to make sure this would be a place that I would like?" I asked him.
Dorian smiled at me.
"Doing something that'll make my mate comfortable is crazy I know." He teased as I blushed looking away now.
"Y-You didn't have to do this, I would have been fine with anything." I told him.
"I know." Dorian reached over the table, taking my hand in his.
"But you deserve nice things as well, Jayce, and I want to take care of you." He told me.
My face was warm looking at him.
"You saying it like that.. makes it sound like we're married." I pointed out.
Dorian looked at me.
"Well.. In a sense, we kind of are." He told me as I choked on my water.
"Are you okay?" Dorian asked, his brows knitted.
I nodded looking at him.
"What do you mean, we kind of are?" I questioned.
Dorian looked at me.
"Well, when a vampire marks someone or they get marked, it's a form of marriage because you're linked together, bound until one or the other passes." He explained.
I looked at my glass.
"I..I didn't know." I found myself saying.
"Do you regret it?" He questioned.
I looked at him before shaking my head.
"No, of course not.. I just didn't know, so.. does that mean Rocky and Stetson are married?" I asked him.
Dorian smirked softly looking at me.
"I wouldn't throw the married word around so freely, not everyone will understand what you're talking about, or they'll choose to be in denial. I wouldn't even really call it marriage until after graduation." He told me.
I looked at the other confused.
"But-"
"Our terms as vampires are a bit more complicated than human terms, for now? You and I are just marked, which means no one else can have you and vice versa." He said.
I frowned softly.
"What happens if there are couples out there who are not happy being marked? What happens then?" I asked him.
Dorian blinked.
"The marked one would have their memories completely stripped of their partner, and that mark on their body will just be seen as a bruise that'll never heal." He told me as I frowned at him.
"That's.. actually really sad." I said.
Dorian smiled softly, squeezing my hand.
"It is sad, but sometimes it happens to those unlucky." He looked at me.
"But I think for me? I'm pretty lucky, what about you?" He questioned.
I blinked but felt my face growing warm as I smiled softly at him.
"I feel pretty lucky as well." I told him.
--------
"Home sweet home." Dorian removed his shoes as I did the same, before making my way into the bedroom.
"Jayce, wait!" I gasped being pulled back by Dorian who glared harshly at the one at the bed.
My heart was pounding with my eyes locked on Joshua.
He was still asleep.
"How did you get in here, Devi?" Dorian growled pushing me behind him as he glared daggers at Devi.
His eyes were locked on Joshua before looking at Dorian.
"You should really be more careful when it comes to locking doors, think about how unsafe that would have been for a human." His eyes fell on me as Dorian growled at the other.
"Why are you here?" He demanded.
Devi looked to him.
"I'm only here to take what belongs to me." He answered as my brows knitted looking at Joshua.
"What... belongs to you?" I repeated.
Devi looked at me with amusement.
"Oh that's right, you haven't been at school nor were you there the day your brave little friend came and talked to me, if Kaiser and Rocky hadn't pissed me off, things might be different today." Devi said as I frowned at him.
"What do you mean?"
Devi looked at me.
"I mean, your little friend, the crybaby? Would have been my entertainment and under my control, but because Kaiser reminded me that I had Joshua, I guess I was being selfish thinking I needed two. Plus? Joshua would have killed that crybaby in seconds.. now that was an idea." Devi smirked softly.
Dorian glared at Devi.
"That doesn't explain why you're in my house." He growled.
Devi rolled his eyes.
"I thought saying I was here to take what belonged to me, was self explanatory enough? I'm here for Joshua." He said lifting my brother up as my body moved on its own.
"Put him down! He's staying here!" I glared harshly at Devi who chuckled looking at me.
"Cute, but no he's not, that reminds me. Rocky tried saying the same thing, your friends really know how to fuck shit up for you." Devi grinned adjusting his hold on Joshua who didn't budge.
"Because once your dear brother does wake up?" Devi made his way over to us as Dorian kept a death grip on my arm, his eyes jet black as he glared at Devi.
"I'm making sure he has nothing to do with any of you-"
"No." Tears filled my eyes standing there.
Devi smirked at me.
"Oh yes, you've all pushed my buttons A LOT here lately, and what is the proper response to acting out? Strict fucking discipline." He glared now as the tears streamed down my cheeks.
"P-Please, I don't know what happened, but please don't take my brother from me. He's the only real family I have left, I'm begging you." I cried.
Devi stared.
"Funny, you're not even trying to beg right now, you just want something because it helped you breathe better at night. You can thank your friends for this, you'll see your brother at school, but he won't be yours anymore. He'll be mine." Devi shoved past Dorian who glared daggers at him.
"Devi, you are taking this too far, Jayce hasn't done anything to be disciplined for. What happened at school while we were away?" He asked him.
Devi paused, looking over his shoulder to Dorian.
"You are a lot like that crybaby, but if you must know? I'm tired of you younger vampires thinking you have absolutely any authority over how I do things, Kaiser and Rocky are both acting out and because of their actions? Everyone they're associated with gets punished as well." He walked to the door.
"D-Devi." I cried as the other paused, he turned to me.
"I think we're done here, see you in school." He said walking out with my brother, who didn't know a thing.
I turned to Dorian, my whole body aching as I cried harder.
"Dorian." I sobbed as Dorian rushed over to me.
Embracing me like no tomorrow.
"I'm going to fix this, I fucking promise." Dorian told me as I cried into him.
What started out as a shitty morning, that seemed like it would turn into a decent day.
Was destroyed in an instant.
My brother was gone.
