SELFISH, that was the only thought that had began to brew. it made her skin crawl, how had she been so blind, how had she not noticed, she felt foolish.

foolish for believing that the governor hadn't done the same to maggie, the man was a liar, and she should've known that from the beginning. she should've known no matter what she did, he would've hurt maggie either way.

it made sense to her now, maggie had been acting the same way colette had. she'd been distant, laying in her bunk for hours, barley speaking and avoiding anyone touching her. colette wished she'd opened her eyes earlier, wished she'd seen the signs that maggie was giving off, perhaps she would've been able to provide support to the girl.

how much support she would've been able to offer the women was unknown, because she too was struggling. yet she was sure she would've done something, she knew she would've done something- anything to help maggie.

her boots hit against the floor, lips pursed as she neared maggie's cell. she stood in the doorway, eyes watching the motionless women. she laid on her side, curled up and facing the wall, hands beneath the side of her face, it made her heart hurt at the sight of the women, a pang deep in her chest.

colette gently hit her fist against the concrete wall, maggie looked up. hands wiping away the tears that stung her face, sitting up she offered a smile to colette. she motioned for the grimes girl to enter, which she did, sitting down beside maggie on her bunk. her hands were in her lap, eyes burning into the concrete wall in front of her.

she clenched her fists, nails digging into her flesh. "he told me he wouldn't touch you." colette told, voice soft and barley above a whisper. her body tense, and she felt a new surge of anger flow through her body. she wanted to keep maggie safe, and she'd still been attacked. "he told me if i... took my shirt off he wouldn't touch you. i had just heard glenn getting the shit beat out of him, and i thought id be able to keep you safe." cole added, maggie stared at her lap, hands messing with the hem of her shirt. eyes soft as she looked to the girl, colette had been traumatized to no end, to keep maggie safe.

the green women stared at the girl in shock, a mix of disbelief and hurt clouding her vision. colette was loyal, she'd always had been, maggie didn't know she'd do something like that for her. she felt grateful, even if it happened to her, she still felt grateful to colette for trying. "and i'm not saying that so you feel bad for me, trust me, if anything i want you to treat me as you always have." colette told softly, looking to the women who slowly nodded. their eyes met, both welled with tears.

colette sucked in a breath, "but you wanna know what he said to me? he told me he'd won." colette told softly, chewing on the inside of her cheek. she couldn't cry, not again, not as she'd been doing for days. maggie pursed her lips as the girl spoke, "but he didn't. we can't let him win, he thinks he broke us, that's why he said he won." colette told softly, maggie held a numb expression, the same one that colette had for days upon days.
