"Ms. Banks?" Principal Sanders called as I sat across from her, blinking slowly. Her voice kept going in and out as I thought about what had happened with Tanika an hour ago.

"Neek what did you do?" I looked up at her as I kept my hands on Andraya's neck to try to slow the bleeding.

"Let go!" Tanika screamed to security as he tried taking the box cutter from her. "LET IT GO!"

The female guard stood to the side of me holding her jacket up to Daria's bleeding face. Tanika had sliced that child's face open like a fucking fruit ninja. Blood was everywhere. While me and security tried to get the situation under control to make sure Tanika wouldn't attack anyone else, a few staff members cleared the hallway and ushered the children into classrooms or outside the building. What the fuck had just happened?

"Stay with me," I said to Andraya, finally looking back into her face. "Just stay with—"

It was too late. The gurgling sounds she'd been making had stopped. She stopped blinking. Her eyes remained open as they stared back into mine. She was gone.

"NEEEK!" I cried, looking up at her.

"Nurse Banks, I know this is hard." Principal Sanders said. "But I need to know what happened."

"So do I." Detective Grant said from behind me.

School was immediately let out and the police, coroner, and crime scene investigators were called in. Daria was rushed to the hospital but just at the end of the hallway lay Andraya's corpse. News reporters were on the scene and Tanika sat in a police car waiting to be transported to wherever they were taking her. She was a minor and I wasn't sure how they were going to handle this situation.

"LET ME HOLD MY BABY! OH GOD!" The sound of a woman's voice could be heard down the hallway. "ANDRAYA!" She wailed.

I jumped and closed my eyes, fighting the urge to shed tears not only because Tanika had hit this point in her life and thrown it away but also because a parent had lost their child.

"NO! LET ME GO! LET ME GOOOOO! DRAYA! OH GODDDD!" The woman continued.

I could hear the cops on the scene trying to calm her down. There was no calming anyone down when something as tragic as losing your child had occurred. Why the fuck had things gotten this bad? At this point it was like God was punishing me for being part of what people referred to as the "rainbow community" or he was making bad things happen to get me to see that I needed to cut ties with this family.
