𝙾𝚖𝚗𝚒𝚜𝚌𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚝 "Dianna?!" Adina yelled, making her way inside as Khadijah pushed the front door open. Dianna immediately regretted giving Khadijah a key. That was only because she'd had no way of knowing that Dymond would get out and end up at her house.
Dymond hid in the walk-in pantry while Dianna and Denim pretended to be cleaning up the dishes from the scraps of food left of Denim and Dymond's plates. Adina, Khadijah, and Evelyn made their way into the kitchen.
"Excuse me young man but I need you to give me a second with my daughter so..." Adina nodded at the door for Denim to leave the kitchen as if she ran the place. Her first thought likealways was that this was someone Dianna was screwing. It was easy to get that idea when they'd all walked into the house to alcohol out on the table and dinner laid out. Evelyn was starting to wonder now too. Dianna had told her that it wasn't like that between her and Denim, but this said something else.
"Excuse you?" Dianna looked Adina up and down as Denim took a plate from her and started to scrape the food into the trash. "What are you even doing here? You have no right coming into my house uninvited as if things are cool between us. You definitely don't have the right to come in here and start giving out orders to my company. You can let yourself out."
"You really wanna do this now? Right now, Darnell?!" Adina shouted, unable to catch herself before the name had even slipped out. She was so fed up and angry that it was bound to happen eventually.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at Adina. Dianna's mouth fell ajar, and Denim almost dropped a plate as he looked across the kitchen at Dianna. He was confused about the name drop, but after a few seconds it was starting to set in that Darnell was Dianna. That meant Dianna was transgender and that meant Dymond was...dating one? Had Dymond not known?
"Adina!" Evelyn said through gritted teeth.
"Di I'm...I'm sorry. Adina tried apologizing. No matter what she and Dianna were going through or had been through, she'd never disrespected her like that.
Dianna had been called many things by folks in the past but calling her the name she'd fought so long and hard to shake was the ultimate disrespect. Memories of the night she was almost killed came flooding back. The memory of running into Montell afterwards and him spitting in her face came back. Shanti disrespecting her and her friends in the restaurant came back. Everything was hitting her all at once. The feelings about those things she'd tried to suppress hoping that if she suppressed them, they would all heal. All she saw was red and before anyone could chastise Adina for her slip up, Dianna slapped her mother.
"Ohhh shit." Denim stood at attention as if he were a veteran. "Di--" He tried grabbing her arm, but she snatched away.
"How dare you fucking disrespect me you miserable hateful bitch!" Dianna cried.
