Alina Romano
Excitement seemed hard to contain at work today. I would be on a flight out to London in just five hours, and I couldn't wait. My Aunt Willow is ecstatic to see me, it's been so long.
She was my mother's baby sister. They have a ten-year age gap. However, she was the coolest, even though she kept her distance. When she called, I talked with her frequently to update her on my life. I was the closest to her. My mum and she haven't spoken in a bit.
My Mum had gone back to London for Easter a few years ago because my Nan was not doing well. She and Aunt Willow got into a huge scoff, and they have been on minimal speaking terms since.
I told my mother that life is too short to be mad at your sister. No matter what she'd done, there was no reason to hate her. However, she cast me aside and said I'd never understand. Then she blamed me for the unknown fight without reason.
It confused me as to why I would be the subject matter. Still I didn't care for their pettiness I only cared for my family. So I kept ties with Willow as she traveled the world. She's a photographer for National Geographic, her dream.
Kingston didn't know much about her and she was stunned to hear I had a husband. I was still so young and yet here I was married and started my life with a man. But now she'd get to meet him.
"Something distracting you Alina?" Bridget, my new boss waves her hand in front of me. She was already agitated and all I did was space out for two seconds.
I despised her, it was like she wanted to make my life miserable. Sure, I was depressed and mulling through emotions. I'd began my injections a month ago just a few short days after Christmas and it had been playing with my moods. Kingston was hopeful, always had been.
However Bridget didn't care for thoughts, emotions or feelings. She practically just shit on me and my work ethic, which was still decent. I did things smoothly and professionally. She just seemed to like to make me suffer.
Garry left, he was now out in Los Angelos for his family. He had a decision between his husband and his job, I was proud he chose his family. But it still didn't make it any easier to say goodbye to him, my mentor. My work husband divorcing me for no good reason (well, some good reason). To save his real marriage.
Now it was like I was back at the bottom of the barrel and my intern, Colleen was scrambling. She felt cooked under pressure, hell I sure did as well. Bridget started promptly after Christmas. Cutting my time with Kingston shorter.
I was thankful I got off my days for London. This place had become a pressure cooker, even Kingston noticed my hours. I'd gone through three clients in just weeks finishing a job before I could properly begin.
Bridget was reshaping our 'hive' as she put it. I would like to reshape her face if I could.
"Yes, I apologize. I have a long day ahead of me," I excuse turning back to the plans I'd drafted up for her earlier in the week for the Foster family.
She glanced down at them and then her eyes trailed to my ring. My fingers tapping against the table with nerves, I felt intensely watched.
"Well I need you to draft up new plans. Minnie Foster has changed her mind on what she wants. I told her you were available tonight to meet. As I'll need you here all night anyhow, we've got much to do," As Bridget stood following her words. I swear I was seconds away from chucking my glass of water at her.
