Alina Romano

I clutched my chest as I sat up sweaty in bed waking up from a dream I instantly couldn't remember. Thirst clenched at me as I felt a dryness in my mouth.

Staring at the clock, it struck 3:30 a.m. There was silence in the house. The babies had slept through the night, yet I hadn't. Kingston's body pressed against my arm, and swiftly, I removed his weight.

Slipping out from bed I crept up towards the door as I pulled my shorts up my thighs. The door creaked open to an empty hallway. Confusion filled me as I expected a guard to be there.

A pit feeling filled my stomach, and I rushed into the twins' bedroom. Finn rocked himself in the chair, smiling at me as I entered the room.

"Are you alright, Mrs. Romano?" He asks.

"Perfectly fine... I'm going to grab some water," I say as the girls rest in their cribs, and Finn pulls out his phone. With relief, I escape downstairs, but I forget to ask him where everyone else has gone. Rubbing my eyes a few times, I slowly shake myself awake.

We had three guards stationed inside the house at all times. Tonight, Tony had been off. It was the first time in a long time he'd taken time to himself. When he asked I immediately granted it as he'd done almost too much the past few months for me.

I flick on the lights as I enter the kitchen. Reaching for a glass in the cabinet, I choose my favorite crystal one. It was part of a set Kingston's mother gifted us for our marriage. I never wanted to ask what the expense was, but I never let Mia touch any of it.

As I turn to the fridge, I freeze momentarily. It had already been opened. It made a blinking noise as the light shined.

"Kingston?" I mumbled out. I was too tired even to notice he'd come into the room. The door shuts, and a man I've never seen before in my life stares at me wickedly, and the power cuts.

The girls.

Cold metal is pressed against my ear. The clicking noise signifies what I'm up against, and I don't dare drop the crystal as I struggle to hold it in my hand. I gasped as I felt a cloth go over my mouth.

"Shhh, be a good girl, and don't make a noise," my eyes follow his movements. I can't see him fully, but the voice terrifies me. "We don't need to get dramatic here; I'm just here to get what I want, Princess..." The gun twisted against my head, causing me to squirm in fear. My whole body had been shaking and the glass was taken from my hand.

"If you scream... I murder your entire family," the cloth is removed, and I'm able to breathe again, barely. "Your husband isn't as light as a sleeper, he thought; good thing he'll be knocked out for a few hours. But not like your dead agent in the bathroom. However, you should've kept more tabs on Justine," his eyes glance over to the corner.

One of our trusted against smirked at me in the corner. In her hands were my jewelry and a few items from my closet. I don't look down at my rings to signal that they are there. She stares at me with a cruel expression, enjoying every second of my demise.

"Justine's father got ripped off many years ago when she was a teen by a certain Romano... drove him to take his own life; I'm glad she's getting her compensation. From what page six tells me, those diamonds could feed a small country... or buy one, was it?" The gun pressed against my head in a jerked movement, taking away my breath.
