Alina Romano
Kingston came home a week ago. However, I never would've guessed it since I hadn't actually seen him once. There was the faint scent of his cologne and my shampoo. I'd smell it on my skin in the morning, yet he hadn't slept in our bed. He hadn't been in our room and the doors to the office were locked and guarded.
Not even Antony stood outside of them. It was two men I'd never seen in my life. If someone were to tell me it was really Houdini in there, I'd believe them. I wondered where he slept, showered or even peed. There wasn't a bathroom in that office.
It was down the hall to the left near the laundry room. I swore he waited til I went to work or to bed. The weekend was weirder, I'm sure he peed in a cup. I swear I saw one of them hurry out of there with a water bottle, not filled with water.
If he was being held hostage then I probably failed as a wife at this point. Even though I seemed to have already failed weeks ago. I'd already cried enough about it on my own. Tearing up now staring at those doors wouldn't do any good.
"Mrs. Romano, would you care to take a walk?" Antony's voice trails in behind me as I remain staring. I swore even the biggest workaholics left their offices at least once a day.
"Why, so he can finally leave the office to pee? Or better yet, shower? Is he worried I'd catch a glimpse of his bad hair cut, I swear I'm not one to judge Tony. We both know this," I give him a knowing look. He can never live down the buzz cut incident. He looked so strange coming into work, I didn't say a word. Colleen spoke for me.
Before he could respond to me the door cracks open and Rachel, his assistant, steps out. She looked like she hadn't slept in days and slightly frightened. However her face paled as she saw me staring.
"I'm guessing you thought I was on that walk huh?" Rachel stared at me blankly for a moment and then nodded. "I feel like it's the safari in there, and I'm the monkey on the spike," Rachel says exhausted. Except, as she expects me to understand and agree with her. To sympathize.
Yet I'm left in utter confusion.
"I fear, I'm not picking up what you're putting down Rach," with my words she grimaces and sighs. Then excusing herself she b-lines for the infamous bathroom down the hall.
"I know he has to use the bathroom, he has a small bladder." As I slip out the words Antony stared at me annoyed. "Tony, you'll have to lift me to move me and I'm sure you don't have clearance."
"I'm giving you a five second warning before I take you out of here and we go on a walk. Being in this house for so long isn't good for you. It can spark a depression," The seriousness in his voice doesn't go unwavering. However, when I turn I'm greeted by Finn and his eyes tell me what I already know.
"You wouldn't, he wouldn't let you," I say hopeful that my own husband wouldn't have his guard remove me. Just so I didn't have to see him.
"Two," Antony warns stepping closer.
"One," Finn adds.
My hands raise before they could touch me. Fearing harm to the twins or myself in this state I step aside quickly. My legs carry me fast and I'm out the door without a coat. I'm left in my Ugg's and flanneled pajamas.
Quickly I escape security. I hide a building over and call an Uber. It only takes four minutes until I'm inside and hear the shouts of Antony. I didn't want to be at home, because it wasn't home. It was a jail and a swamp of depression.
