"Good morning Iraj ma'am, how are you?" She was greeted by one of the main lobby receptionists at Azfar's office. She'd come to see Mehran as he had told her to meet him there.
It had been three weeks since she'd been back in Karachi. Most of her days had been spent with Mehran in her father's office and even some evenings at restaurants for dinners. Azfar had not objected to any of it neither he had tried to impose himself or show up anywhere she would go with his rival. She would get calls from her brother regularly and he would not disconnect the call unless he was convinced she was okay every single day. His wife's delivery was due this week. She felt scared and excited both at the same time. But within that time frame she had not been to the one place that had haunted her for months. His office.
She tried to divert her thoughts instead of thinking about the people inside who had seen and heard everything that had happened three months before.
Seeing the blankness on Iraj's expression the receptionist spoke again with a smile, "Ma'am, sir is in his office. I can inform Farhat to let him know that you're here, he's in a meeting."
Oh the contrast of the situation was that she wasn't there to meet her husband for the first time she was visiting after her marriage. In the last two years she had only ever been there to see him. Iraj had to bring the courage to correct her misunderstanding. "I'm here to see Mr Mehran Pervez."
The girl immediately nodded at her, "Yes, of course ma'am. He is in his office as well."
Iraj wished she could've put a mask on her face to hide it from everyone who would be inside the lounge area. She didn't want to see their faces again. She walked in and saw that most of it was empty. Something very unusual and strange. Where had the staff gone to?
Thanking Allah for her luck she quickly went towards Mehran's office room. To her surprise she was told that Mehran had held a general staff meeting on a short notice today and it would take him at least fifteen minutes to get back to his cabin.
She loitered around for a while then unknowingly walked past Azfar's cabin. Assuming he would be in the meeting too she went to see his office, even Farhat was not on her desk.
She opened the door a little and peeked towards his desk and walked inside when she saw it was empty only to be disheartened to find Azfar looming over a model fixing something in the corner of the opposite side with one hand in his pocket.
"Iraj?" His head changed its angle the moment he heard the sound of the door.
She was holding the strap of her purse in both her hands in front of her thighs feeling like it might just drop from her grip now.
"Jaan, when did you come?" Happiness spread on his face and voice.
"I came to see Mehran." She tried to not let her shoulders slump and sound confident walking forward to where he was standing. "Why are you not in that meeting?"
