"Mehran?" Iraj was standing unable to believe that he was actually there, right now, in front of them.
"Salam ka jawab toh de do na." He spoke so softly to her that she realized she had been impolite with her staring.
(At least return my greeting.)
Clearing her throat she spoke with a gentle smile, "Oh, right, walekum assalam."
Someone else had lost all their patience though, "What are you doing here?" Azfar ranted with irritation.
"I'm here to see Iraj." Mehran didn't even bother to greet him or even look in his direction. His eyes were fixed at Iraj.
Azfar wanted to wound his eyes with his own hands, "With whose—"
"Assalam o alaikum beta Mehran, how are you? Azfar inhe mene bulaya hai, I told you both last night about the person who'll be with Iraj to start her new business, they've known each other since years and Mehran's got a masters degree in business management as well, so I guess it all just fell into place." It certainly did not fall into place for Azfar Zaman hearing his father in law's explanation, who had entered the house just now.
(Stay blessed Mehran son, how are you? Azfar I've called him,)
Iraj was as shocked as her husband right now, since when did Siraj Kazmi think of Mehran as a suitable person for her to even consider for anything? What in the world was happening? There was disbelief on her face but then her father smiled at her to blink her doubts away.
Azfar was absolutely dumbfounded when he saw Mehran and Siraj all busied up in a conversation like long lost friends. Things were moving on really fast, he had barely consumed the events of last night and now this. It was outrageous.
It all just escalated to a point where they were now sitting in the lounge while Azfar was still standing in the corner trying to comprehend how did everyone find out about his whereabouts and even managed to invade his house so conveniently.
He sat down soon after when he saw that no one had bothered to ask him to sit even after half an hour, and then he had again drowned in his thoughts for a while till Iraj stood up and Mehran did too, walking away from the scene to the outer area of the house.
He was about to follow them out when Siraj called him, "Azfar, I want her to regain confidence and strength in herself again. I'm sure you'll be the best support, right?"
He didn't know what kind of support was his father in law was referring to, did he want him to set his daughter free and divorce her or did he mean something else? As far as her career was concerned, Azfar himself only wanted his wife to succeed in whatever she wanted, he would never interfere, but why was he feeling so uneasy now? Mehran Pervez was the sole reason.
"Always." He replied not knowing what to specify.
"Sabeen and I will be returning back to Pakistan today, Mehran will be here for the time that Iraj is here. He will send me the details about everything Iraj decides to go ahead with. When you all come back to Pakistan we'll finalize it all." He informed Azfar just the way used to, knowing he'd never say a word to even differ.
