"My dear Viona. Are you still on earth?"

I snapped back to reality, "Huh? Oh. I'm alright, Madame."

It's ten to six, I forgot that the orphanage lady called me to her office for a private discussion. In front of me, Matron sat on her other favorite chairs.

Her grey eyes gazes worryingly, then she said, "You seem to daydream a lot nowadays. Did something happen?"

"Ah... Umm, I was thinking about what I will do in the future..." My eyes couldn't look at hers as they kept glancing away to the clock.

I'm not lying though, but why it's hard to face her?

At the moment, my head was full of the plans for the future. Even though I was assured, anxiety and fear still pounded in my chest.

What if I don't do well and make things worse than they were before? Should I even do this? Will the future betray me once again?

Many thoughts encircled me in every corner, making the confidence I had falter. I wanted to run away from all of this. Suddenly, a soothing light filled my senses.

"It'll be alright, dear Viona."

My hands stopped trembling when I looked up to see her smile.

"Even if you lose your map in the dark journey, I will light up all the candles in this place." Matron's expression softened. "So, you can rest in bed while drawing maps with several newspapers, my child."

Hearing that, my heart feels like it is under the sunshine of spring. The dry tears I kept shedding melted, like it was not enough to let out a little voice of gratitude once again. Then, I felt my whole body surrounded by the mild summer. I hugged her back, as we always do when autumn and winter come to visit this home.

Several minutes later, I released myself from her arms politely. If my heart was telling the truth, there wasn't enough of her warmth in the world. Unfortunately, it's almost time for everyone to wake up and prepare for morning duties. I need to go back so I don't get questioned by the other children, especially Trix.

Before I go, I have to ask her something. As I faced her, I asked Matron while smiling. "Madame, do I have to buy a lot of stuff?"

"No. not at all," She smiled back, "Is there something wrong?"

"Ah... No, Madame. I just want to invite Trix to go shopping. Can she go with me?" I pleaded with puppy eyes.

After I threw the question, she's been silent for a little while.

Is she mad at me?

Then, Matron shook her head with disappointment.

I guess not.

"I'm sorry, my dear. Two days ago, Trix said that she already has a plan for this afternoon, she hopes you could understand."

"Oh... I see. It's alright then..." My mouth was trying to keep the smile, "I guess it's time for me to be independent."

Matron seemed stunned when she heard what I said. "My dear Viona... Did someone say that you need to be independent?"

Panicked that I slipped my tongue again, I quickly brushed it with goodbye.

"Ahaha... Look at the time! It's time for the chores," My feet quietly walk backward to the door and hide behind it, "Goodbye, Madame. I'll see you later!"

Without further ado, I ran off to do my chores.
