Several hours passed really quickly as I was on the bed in the health room. Trix was still arguing to Nanny, who was sitting on her wooden chair, since she gently dropped me here. It's hard for me to listen what they said to each other. But seeing Trix's worried and desperate expression, it strengthened my theory of her being a magic user.
My sight was starting to blur again. Feeling the need to counter the dizziness, I shook my head to regain consciousness. The shaking wasn't working yet my head felt clearer more than before- it's better than not at all, right?
I took a glance to their side when my best friend sighed in heavy breath. Couldn't erase my curiosity, I asked her while turning to her side.
"What's wrong, Trix?"
Her silver eyes widened a little bit, then back to her usual soft gazes. She calmly approached me who still tucking in the blanket. Her pale hand caressed my cheek softly.
I leaned toward her touch helplessly, like a pet getting their reward from their owner.Don't blame me, okay? That's just how desperate I am to get this side of her more.
Suddenly, there's a cough from where Nanny was sitting. Trix quickly let go of my face, leaving me with emptiness.
I looked to the side where our other caregiver chuckled while walking toward us. As soon as her yellow eyes checking up on me, she stopped beside us then snickering."Did you two forget that I'm still here?"
My entire face felt hot as I tried to deny her accusation,
"n-no. Not at all. It-it's just your imagination."Nanny laughed harder, making my best friend face palmed herself with a groan.
"You're not helping us here, Viona."
"Sorry," I hid myself with the blanket, "I could only think that. It was my best answer at the moment."
Trix pinched the bridge of my nose a little, "You know that you're insufferable, Viona?"
Hearing that, my heart dropped as I gazed at somewhere else. I understand that she didn't mean it negatively, but...
It's hard when I always disappoint her, every time we were together.
Even though that thought still lingered in my head, I tried to smile while responding her. "Yeah... I know that... Thank you for reminding me again, Trix."
There was another moment of silence. It made me could feel the tension between us again, thicker and more stifling than before. When I was wondering if my response was at fault, the purple-haired lady strongly clapped her hands once. Surprised by the sound, I immediately faced her.
"Phew... That's better now. Please listen to me for a few minutes," Nanny then gazed one by one between us seriously, "Viona, there's nothing wrong with your health–"
"But–"
My best friend glared at Nanny but failed to continue her sentence as our caretaker put her finger on her lips.
"No. Oh. Trix, I already told you that I even checked her temperature. You don't have any say in this, young miss."
Despite the stern warning, her face was smiling, even when she let go her dark finger from Trix's face. The navy-haired girl grunted as she crossed her arms while looking away.
I swore that Nanny looked like a mother for a second. She even beat my best friend in her own game. When I was chuckling in my mind, the clock chimed twelve times. Nanny looked at it and commented while grinning. "Oh. It's already time for lunch, time for you two get out from here."
Hearing that, I immediately get down from the bed and stood before her. "What? Is that time again? Wow, no wonder that my body is not tired anymore! Thank you for reminding me," I said it with a smile.
The purple-haired lady replied, "You're welcome. Now, hurry up and go to the hall before Matron came."
"What about you, Nanny?" I tilted my head as my hand holding the pale hand, "You won't come with us?"
"Ah. It's alright, I had to skip meals today because there's something that need to get finish today. You two just go without me."
Accepting her refusal with me, I nodded then bowed. Trix expressed her concern again, but my hand already dragged her out after I bid my thanks to our caretaker. Half the way to the hall, my best friend slapped my hand until the latter released the former. As we stood in the deserted hallway, then the silver eyes glared to me with intensity that can compared to a dagger.
"Viona, didn't I tell you that I can walk independently?"
"But... You don't need to slap me... Can't you just ask me to not hold your hand?"
Suddenly, she slapped me on the wrist for the second time.
"Auch," My hand instantly rubbed where she slapped me, "why are you slapping me again?"
"To remind you that you're annoyed me again."
My eyes grew bigger. It's hurt so much that my wound on my heart almost made me passed out. If it's someone else, this wouldn't be pain like this. Yet, what came from her mouth is like a thousand daggers piercing my heart-making it into a two.
"I see. So, it's means that you also don't need me anymore, right?" I smiled, still rubbing my bruised hand.
The silver eyes widen as she stuttering, "Wha-Viona, I don't-"
"It's okay, thank you for making it more clear to me. I promise that I won't bother you any longer," my eyes felt warmth that it's hard to face her, "goodbye, Trix."
To hide my feelings from her, I decided to continue my walk to the dining hall without her. It's lonely but I can prove her that loneliness is one of my friends, beside her. Determined by that motivation, I sat at different place where we usually sit when Trix arrived quite later.
She seemed surprise but quietly moves to the end of the table, where I couldn't see her.I sighed in relief and disappointment. It will be more awkward between us henceforward. But if this what Trix wanted, I can endure it for her. My mouth smiled bitterly.
At the end of the day, this is the most unpleasant lunch I ever had since returning to the past.
