My mouth and eyes felt dry as I kept laughing and crying at the same time. Thankfully, Matron hid me from Trix. It was comfortable to let the feelings that I held it for several decades.
Haa... I really am pathetic...
Matron's hands kept soothing me as they patted my back. It's difficult to talk about the time when everything was in a timeless zone. My hands were still keeping their wariness, ready to stop any attack from any side.
Even if she knows what my weakness is, I will make her admit that she shouldn't mess with me.
I gazed toward Matron. The grey eyes that usually shines warmly, dimming with sadness and regret. Feeling responsible of her, my hand reached out hers as I mumbled. "It will be alright. I can do this, Madame."
"Viona, I-"
Before she could continue, a large fireball came to us with a high speed. Fortunately, my barrier perished it before it could touch us. It was the last verge of my defender. Thus, the blue barrier I put on disappeared several minutes later. There's a sound of bell chiming from a far, making me ashamed and more guarded at the same time.
"Isn't it time for you to leave Melissa and run away from here, Viona?" The silver-haired devil grinned as many circles of magic appeared behind them.
I clicked my tongue as getting myself ready to use more defensive spells. "Don't mess with me, Trix! I won't leave Matron here with you alone!"
"Oh? Even though, all of these are her fault?"
My heart dropped as I froze in the middle of the burning room. I could feel Matron's hand slowly deepened its grip on my wrist. Her grey eyes seemed telling me to continue the conversation.
"What do you mean by that?" My voice almost trembled as I shook any negative feelings from inside, "care to elaborate any further?"
"Pfft... Then, why don't you ask the person herself? She's right beside you, doesn't she?"
I gritted my teeth while swallowing bad words. It's hard to believe that my heart still harbored feelings toward them. Maybe, what I feeling right now was hatred - Yeah, that's it. That's why I couldn't take my gazes off from their alluring looks and majestic silver eyes.
"Viona... Stop... right there," Matron's trembling voice calmed me down, "She's right. Everything that happened here was my fault. If I never made the deal, this wouldn't..."
Matron started to pant unstably as the grey pupils narrowed and widened, unlike her usual laid-back self. Worrying that she couldn't breathe, my arms wrapped around her.
"Sst... It's alright, Matron. You didn't have to answer my question-"
"Oh? That meant... Do you want me to explain it instead? I didn't know that you liked me so much, Viona."
The chiming bells made my ears feeling hot, making me more agitated than before.
"For goodness' sake! Trix. Shut up," I turned around while glaring, "I don't want to hear any joke right now!"
Then, my feet almost tumbled as the ground was shaking when a deep voice suddenly turned cold. "What part do I was joking about, Viona?"
"Huh?" I got my hand ready while keeping one arm still on Matron's side, "Weren't you joking all this time?"
Their expression and gazes darkened, "So? Tell me. Which part do you think I was joking around in this situation?"
I shivered in front of the demanding force. As if, I was the one is in fault here. That's making me more irritated inside. In the past, it was easy for me to forgive them – even when they berated me with their usual meanness. But, now...
